    Default New Shed

    Hi Guys
I am a newcomer to this forum and am looking at buying a shed in Adelaide from the well known builders, Olympic, Stratco, Fielders, Bluescope etc. I would appreciate any advice regarding who are the best and deliver what they say.
I have heard numerous stories about a lot of the companies around and would be interested in hearing any good or bad comments.
    Thanks in advance.

All the mentioned and some others have their own idiosyncrasies. My advice is that you no doubt have a budget in mind, and what you hope to get for that budget. Set out your wants and needs, and look carefully at all the offerings. The cheapest is not necessarily the least favourable and likewise the costliest is not necessarily the best. Look hard for value for money, type of construction, how long you expect the shed to last (for you!), are you going to erect it yourself or by the supplier, is the size you want/need within your budget. Don't forget the hidden extras that arise, such as electricity supply, foundation work, insulation and linig (if you want it) adequate natural lighting and ventilation.

At the end of the day, it's each to his own. I have had sheds/garages supplied by Stratco, Garage World, and Tri-Steel. Of those, I have been the most impressedwith Garage World in terms of quality, type of construction and after sales support. Can't speak for erection of the sheds, as I have done each myself.

All the best in your search and keep the posts coming, with some pics eh?

Many years ago, before I was involved in the shed industry, I purchased a shed and veranda from Olympic, They were on South Road in the Edwardstown area I think.

The salesman swore he could deliver the buildings before xmas and install it as we intended xmas lunch to be under the new veranda......It was a bareface LIE! Turns out there was already a notice on the wall behind him to all sales people that deliveries prior to xmas had closed....Consequently, whilst the product was fine, the erectors competent, I still have a bad taste in my mouth when Olympic Industries are mentioned. It also meant that later in life when I owned my own Shed business, I never over promised to make a sale.

My suggestion is to ask friends and family about their experiences as once a budget is set then it comes down to service.

    cheers, Dave

Decided to go with Olympic, It will be about 2 months before it is up as I have to get council approval which will be about 3-4 weeks and about 6 weeks after that for Olympic to build.
Will let you know how it goes

I purchased a property with a small shed on it 6m x 5m. As the shed was only a couple of years old and I wished to enlarge it, I contacted the supplier with my requirements and they were happy to oblige as they still had details of the original. When the materials arrived, I found them incorrect. I received replacement materials, which were also incorrect. The 3rd lot were right and I went ahead with the extension. Nobody ever bothered to collect the stuffups, so now I have a 9m x 6m and a , wait for it, 18m x 7.5m . The latter cost free except for the concrete slab and a few bits and pieces. One wonders at the profitability of some companies.

Because of time issues I decide to do the site works and retaining, and then have someone else instal the shed. The 2 blokes that did it came in on a stinking hot and humid day and given these and other conditions I was still pleased with the contractors that put it up. The shed contract stipulated that there would be 1 m of clear access on all sides during construction which would have meant removing the two small trees in front of the shed. Instead I left the trees in the ground and when the contractors came I negotiated with them (ie 2 cartons) to leave the trees in the ground. When they left, they left behind a heap of colorbond sheets plus a BIG bag of bolts and various tek screws. There are almost enough sheets for me to clad my old shed - which sits along side the new one.

Make sure it is big enough, and most importantly, make sure it is corrosion proof around the base, and is vermin proof. You don't want gaps for the nasties to get in, and you don't want metal cancer shortening the life of the shed because water is lying around
