I have been building a couple of mobile stands, 1 for my Thicknesser and 1 for a benchtop Jointer. I have used some old cypress from a pergola that was demolished. I had to re-mill the timber and it has come up pretty well. The dust extraction on the Thicknesser is really working well. The benchtop Jointer has a 2" port, that actually work reasonably. The Jointer is pretty well sealed. I removed the panel from the bottom, to see if I could open up the port to at least 4". There is a plastic cover that encases the blades and the port is incorporated into this. It looks like it is to keep the motor protected from all the wood chips and dust, so dont think I can mess around with it too much. Now working on a 2400 x 750 table/bench to act as an out feed table for the Thicknesser & Jointer, and to be a bench for general use and for my Mitre saw. We all know the difficulties with dust extraction on these saws, so giving this some thought as well. Any suggestions welcomed.

Finished the bench, came up pretty well, see pic below. I have had to move things around a bit, so I have to redo my ducting. As I only have 2 tools attached to the DC on the Bench was, a Mitre Saw & Thicknesser, I am thinking of running the ducting behind the benches. I allowed space for this and it will fit. I also have space for the blast gates, so they will be easily accessible. I want to get a french cleat system set up on the wall and the ducting would be in the way. Next job is to set up the mitre saw and dust collection for this.

As previously posted, I have been using a shop vac for my bench top jointer. Not ideal. I wasn't happy with this so went back and connected to the DC. Again, the setup is not ideal, having to reduce from 150mm down to 50mm, but at this stage not much choice. It seems to work better than the shop vac which is a positive. You can feel the air being drawn in at the blades, and as far as I can see all of the chips are being collected and I think most of the fine dust. I may have to see if I get dust appearing around and on it. So far so good. With the moving of the ducting, I have had to make several blast gates. Should have the ducting finished over the weekend...I bloody hope so anyway! A couple of pics below. I will shorten the hose once I get my final resting place sorted.

Another pic showing a bit more. Not sure why they are changing orientation.

Finally got my table saw connected to the DC. I built a 4 sided box, left & right hand sides, a front and a top. I left the back off for air flow. I ran 100mm ducting & hose from the 88 degree bend to the TS. It worked well, but I thought I may as well ran 150mm all the way. This greatly improved extraction. I tested cutting MDF, which I hate cutting in the shed due to the dust it creates. The hood captured around 90% of the dust Vs no extraction. I tried fixing the hood/box to the overhead strut with arms, so I could adjust height and position to some extent, arms similar to what you would see on an adjustable lamp. It didnt work. I just couldnt get them tight enough to support the weight of the box & hose. I went to plan be, which was a sliding strut running on t-track, which could be set any height desired. Works very well. When not in use I can lift box right up out of the way. It sits around 850mm above the TS, which is fine for my height. See pics below:

    Sorry about orientation.

I am finding the DC is working a little too well on the TS. It is lifting off cut up to 50 x 50 x 12 mm mdf or long thin strips. Cutting some 6 mm ply was a pita as it was lifting off the blade, so I had to be super careful with some push blocks, keeping the panel down. It is not a problem right of the box, but underneath is a bit off an issue. Ob light stuff, I will just have to run the DC higher above the table. I will have to apply a mesh guard to prevent small pieces being sucked up. Whilst I do this, I may as well also do the same for the bandsaw and belt sander, both of which have had some near misses.

Built a box with some dust extraction for my mitre saw. I think everyone understands how messy these are, throwing chips everywhere, and obviously fine dust. I built a box with 6" extraction sitting in the bench, directly behind the saw. Was a 50% improvement on chip collection than nothing. I added a shop vac directly into the port on the saw and this improved things up to about 90% better than nothing. I am probably not getting as much fine dust as I would like. I must be capturing some, but cannot measure how much. I use the MS outside when possible, but when it is cold and raining, I have to move inside.

Next task is to increase the dust port size on my small bench top jointer. Currently 2" and will try and get it to 4".
