I have to say there was some education given in what warrants a skylight. One must have not only a diffuser on the ceiling but also means for light to come thru the roof
That means not having iron above the diffuser

Being of fair skin and currently losing weight through the removal of BCCs, SCCs and other skin cancers, I have personally found the placement of corrugated iron above the skylight to be an excellent solution?

Bah, it was only a light frost, and the nail pulling didn't wake me up at all.

Well the progress yesterday was ask that and more
Brett put a huge effort into dressing up some old iron. So much do that it almost looks new in the pics.
All the old purlins/battens were pulled up and replaced
Then sarking on the ceiling and insulation on top
We were 4 batts short so off to the shop to get some more and the job could be finished
Facia boards were installed. Believe it or not .... possibly the gist time in my life. I could fix an entire length facia from the ground

Finally it was time,
under the watchful eye of Brett to install the 'new' iron
Another layer of sarking and iron on top
Brett did not think we would make a start on the iron yesterday but we did, in fact all the sheeting was in place as night fell
What a day
Keen to get in his she'd and feel the difference this morn. At 1° I'm not so sure how keen i am to get back on the roof

It was slightly under 1 deg here this morning so I feel for you blokes up there on Brett's mountain. Real brass monkey weather (I expect you all know the reference has nought to do with human balls but a lot to do with cannon balls) so I won't trouble you with the explanation.
I couldn't help noticing that Dave has short sleeves. It's long everything weather up here.
Shed is looking good. I hope Dave isn't making any sort of mess that is finding it's way inside .

Chris .... new gutters now 😉
Paul ... not convinced it had made it to 1° thick frost on roof this morn. Took hose to roof to melt ice with running water. No ridge cap either. Meant to ask Brett if that is a new leak in the shed or an old one after I hosed the roof down this morning. Can day it was much warmer in the shed than out. Standing a top a roof with ice was less than fun.
As for short sleaves, started the day with 5 layers but Brett had the whip cracking and i warmed up in no time. It had warmed to a balmy 5° according to my phone by the time I stored off
Uncle Al .... if only i were growing taller

Yes indeed Uncle, there's some character loss. I do like the look of rusty iron, and the roof was a particularly nice red, but that was a killer in summer (esp w/o insulation). This exercise is more about leaks and summer rather than winter, although I won't mind a warmer shed with less need for the electric heater.
Ian's two rolls of sarking was just enough to allow a layer at the bottom to reflect the winter heating back down (not sure how effective that will be but....), then fibreglass batts R3.5, then sarking on top for condensation and perhaps a little reflectivity in summer (although there is no real air gap to the sheeting). There was about 2 metres of sarking left out of the two rolls.
The killer was having to zip round to the hardware for another bag of batts....we were four short. This now poses a storage dilemma. We did manage to get the four batts out without the bag exploding into a cubic metre of glass fibres, and taped if back up.
Funny you should mention that Paul. I had been applying PolyU to the deck boards over the previous days so the shed was pretty clean. However, pulling up the roof iron managed to drop an amazing amount of "stuff" through and the entire shed needs a work over.
It was good to note that there were no deadens in the roof cavity. Previously I had pulled out a fried possum (he had hold of the two wires that he had gnawed through). This was about 3-4 years ago, and funnily enough there was no smell (he must have been well done). In fact the only thing that brought it to my attention was the constant stream of fat maggots dropping through the ceiling. I had suspected that there may have been a latter day ghost resident, but it was all clear. (I never was sure if I locked the next possum in or out when I boarded up the cracks under the guttering)

You could always put the old iron over the new iron to keep up appearances

Brett, you could always age the iron after it is on to make it look respectably old again. You need Dulux to mix up some rust coloured paint in varying shades.

You could always cover the new sheets with the old ones if you want to restore the character....
Also replace the front tarp so the next dump of snow doesn't cause heartache....

I suppose the debate over new roofing as opposed to old is just a matter of ironing things out.
