Congratulations W4U but beware about what you might think of as complete. When I got to this point I also thought I was completed but now I reckon I was only about half way there
Things like built in benches, machine layout and hanging things off the wall seem to me to take much longer than I thought it would take. Plus in my case installing things like a sink, reticulated compressed air, and soon my DC ducting.
RE: Much head scratching methinks!
Definitely agree there

Already experienced the dust WR; using saws to cut timber and MDF for frame and lining. Dusty it gets indeed, but without a dusty just yet, keeping the foul stuff at bay with twin filter mask and goggles...look like something from space. Room? yep, if I could have convinced the Lady Chancellor that the investment from the Exchequer would be worthwhile maybe it may have happened. However, what is here is the result of a tradeoff..."get the shed and get all your stuff (just my computer and filing cabinet, not REALLY much) out of my sewing room", is half of the deal, then theres a sting in the tail for a few $K to upgrade embroidery machine and associated software.
Theres plenty of tools dug up from inside the garage, it will likely make the place look like a fishmarket!!

Agree wholeheartedly...the shed is indeed the easy part; it's a fixed object, all else has to fit to suit as you allude to. I have spent several hours sitting and scribbling little piccies on used A4 paper (note the recycling) but each time no resolution. No doubt it will all fall into place over the next year or so.
Provision has been made for the sink at the back of the shed, there is a white area covering the lower right half of the wall up to the window height,. That's (again recycled) melamine, and the cupboard and sink fit there. My small compressor will be outside the back of said shed, and piped inside to just 2 points I think. Dusty? well heaps of room outside for it, again at the rear or side with no windows. Why is the not any windows on that side? It's the western side and no windows means no hot sun inside insummer...the days can get up to 35c +...too hot for us cool climateers!

That's a great job. One thing you notice straight away is the natural light coming in.

Thanks C. Lots of real light equals better for the eyes, and cheaper for the elec bill. The only artificial light so far is 1 x single 36w fluoro at each end, and 1 x double 36w in the middle, all mounted to the ridge purlins; when lit at night, the light is more than enough...quite bright and at this stage I don't intend to extend the lihting. 'Sides, don't work in their often at night

Yep, Bob, indeed....have been doing more today, after putting the econd coat of floor paint on a little over half of the floor area. Whether 3 coats will be necessary I am not sure, but have had very good wear from the same brand (White Knight oil based) in the garage; 8 years from 2 coats, but it needs recoating now. Much easier to do the third coat now han later...no moving

Yep, one has to for peace of mind....but at what cost sometimes? SWAMBO is talking about $ 000's!!! The dreamy eyes are looking at a new machine cost of almost the cost of a small car!!! Then there's the software et al.
Oh well indeed, what else is the remaining super forLast edited by wun4us; 9th October 2011 at 10:30 PM. Reason: spellcheck

Light at the end of the tunnel
Yippee!! Painting floor has been completed and no more prep work to be done.
Now comes the time to really put the thinking cap on. Despite much thought having been givn to what goes where and what do I have to do to get the tools and bits and pieces set up, not much resolution has been achieved. Some doodlings on paper giuve me some idea of what to put where, but whether it will be practical in use could be another matter.
Anyway, starting tomorrow to sort out the wheat from the chaff and move the contents of the garage to the shed. The Mistress of The Household will be most pleased when all is done.
Pics of shed finished before hell breaks loose!!

Looks good, but I think that gloss floor is going to cause problems with sun reflection.
You may have to wear sunnies.

Thanks, Steve. But space? I suppose I should be grateful for what I've got, but already I'm wondering how to fit everything and work too!!
Already planning to construct a timber storage area about 2.4m from the floor at one end and full width with maybe 1.2m or 1.5m depth. The woods gotta go somewhere!!
