Regarding the bench timber is that Brett or me? Mine's going OK. I did put an update on the Spotty thread, but the 25mm material is dry and ready. The 50mmthick material is in the mid teens so has a little way to go as is the 100mm stuff for legs etc.

There must be thousands of these things around the country put to other uses.

I've seen them as self storage units, Welded together as workshops and machinery sheds,
two parked about 6m apart and the whole area covered with a raised skillion roof. The open
area under the roof protects tractors and a ute. Of course the whole thing would have been
more efficient with guttering and tanks, but it was a start.

Guess how far apart the two cream (that's not what I store in them ) containers are and what I intend to do with them?

In fact I realised I probably should have used forty footers so instead I will be extending out the back by 3m and also out the front by 3m. Have most of the materials ready to go. I just need the time.

I needed a door to the container. I had several but nothing that I thought really suited. So I bought a door from a demolition yard, but didn't realise that under the storm moulding the bottom of the door was rotten. If I ever buy another door I'll make this the first check.

This is what it looked like:

Then replacement timber with storm mould was inserted:

I'll have to take a pic of the door in place. It also needs some putty work. Maybe tomorrow.

Similar principle, but a bit more involved with timber frame, walls, trusses, roller doors, windows, concrete slab to mate up with the two existing slabs and a whole pile of bulls**t and engineered drawings to comply with council regulations .

But my partner(wife to be in less than two weeks)
Are building a home from shipping containers .
If you search google you will find thousand of pics.
Novelty the hotel chain have built a hotel from them I think in the UK.
NB the roof is domed to shed water not pushed up by fork lift drivers tho that can happen of course .

The two spaced units i was talking about had a flat roof that sat about 500mm above the containers.
all trusses were anchored to said containers. I guess that the space inside the containers would have
been cooler because of this.

That sounds really enterprising. I have been told that student accommodation at universities have employed this too. As you can imagine they can be many stories high. Just have a look on the container ships! However the "studio" is a single storey, although it does make a tale to tell .

On the roof of a container there may be some doming, but it is not normally noticeable. In this instance it was very noticeable and not consistent for the length of the container. There were in fact distinct flat impressions on the underside of the roof where the forklift mast had be raised in anger.

My roof is planned to be a skillion and will extend over the two containers also. It will definitely act as an insulation barrier to the heat. We will also catch water off this roof.

And they would get to the upper stories......what.....by forklift?

Out of curiosity, what does a 20' pre-loved, pre-domed container cost?
