Christos I've been pondering whether to reply to your question and FYI I'll expend a bit on my decision. At the outset let me make clear that my comments are not related to you but to others.

Actually it benefits me, for I'm no longer ridiculed or insulted by so called " funny" remarks by those that revel in dirty, messy and unorganized sheds.

Some may think that their comments are funny when they compare my shop with an operating theater but it's not to me. In these rooms the walls and floors are cleaned and tools sterilized after each operation. Thus to me those remarks imply that I'm anal enough to do the same in my workshop after I finish a job. Hence my strong objection as the implication refers to my character.

When I was younger I used to shrug those comments off but as I grow older I don't easily put up with that kind of ridicule any more, hence my decision not to post workshop photos. For why should I bother.

I note your comments that WIP posts are like going to a virtual demo. If you went to a real one would you criticize the demonstrator if you disagreed with what they did and publicly ridiculed him. Of course not but in this day and age some posters think they ought to dispense with common courtesy and do just that.

This attitude is creeping right across the board and is probably the reason why a lot of old timers, who were regular posters, don't post very much anymore. When I first joined there was little need for moderation and only a few moderators as there was a basic respect for each other. This has disappeared and the board is no longer as friendly as it used to be.

I suppose it's a sign of the times, but I don't like it.

    Peter.

    I'll second that.

I hope you don't feel like I am telling you what to think, or how you should react, but I think you can have your cake and eat it too.

I think that these fora are populated with a very good bunch of people who most of the time do fantastic work in encouraging and appreciating and challenging each other on many fronts - as well as throwing a bit of stick around for light relief.

I also think we all (mostly) want to see and share everyone's efforts on all levels (... you can read my WIPs in the joke-shop section )

It would be perfectly reasonable to respond to comments that were less than encouraging with a simple "I'm sorry but that was uncalled for or inconsiderate, and I'd appreciate a bit more consideration if you don't mind".

Until this thread, I for one didn't know I was missing out on the opportunity to see something new.
I think better to speak up (as you have now) and help keep us all on track than withdraw somewhat - in which case we all lose.

God knows I'm sure I have said and spoken plenty of stupid things.
    Cheers,
    Paul

I'd love to have a shed like this bloke. And I'd love a tidy, clean shed where I can find things, especially now that I can never remember where I put anything. I've become a lot more organised in my life habits as I've become older, but I'm afraid I'll never achieve that level of organisation, as much as I'd like to. I am planning on building a new shed at our new place, and I do have grand designs of how I want it set up - but the set up will be up to me and will doubtless have to compete with projects that I want to do as well. Hopefully I'll get there eventually. And I'll take lots of photos along the way and then never organise them into a WIP...

I am envious as to the extent of gear he has...and the great light but he must have run out of money...that Timber rack looks quite piddly & sparse.
