    Default Art residency

    Hello all,
I just thought I'd announce a big opportunity that has been offered to me! I'm off work for all of October, to go and make a sculpture as artist-in-residence up at Childers, near Hervey Bay in Queensland.
I'll be staying and working at Vintner's Secret Winery, with accomodation and a shed provided. It's part of the Crush Festival , which is organised through Bundaberg Regional Council’s Community Cultural Development Program. I will be working in steel and timber, so if any fellow forumites are in the neighbourhood, feel welcome to drop in and see my progress!

    Cheers

Yahoo, last day of work! I'm hoping to post a blog about the residency, and to this end I have been loaned a laptop and camera from work, to document it all. Not sure of the site yet, maybe even here?! But you can be sure you'll see something about it!

    Cheers

    Hello there!!
Having some major problems with internet access, which is a bugger after getting a laptop fitted with wireless modem. A certain other network just doesn't cut it, and only 2kms off the major highway.
Apart from that its all going really well. Working with steel mostly, and the juices are flowing. I'm hoping to incorporate some timber, but lacking my favourite tool (the bandsaw), I am a little stifled. Plenty of local hardwood on the side of the road, so the brand new Arbortech may yet lose its virginity!!
The place itself is brilliant: lovely spot, really open friendly hosts, swimming pool complete with palms and such, four backpacking gals in residence, umm...its a bit like heaven really! And did I mention I'm not at work??!
I have made friends at the local dump, who not only allow me to source material, they keep stuff aside!

I'd better go and listen to some music and draw some more ideas!

    Cheers

Well, here I am, back at work after having a wonderful time on the residency! Reality is very hard to take after the month away, focusing on just what I wanted to do.
I finished off 3 largish steel sculptures, made from recycled hot water tanks, pressure reserviours, gas bottles, pipe and glass insulators, all sourced from the local tip. They are now permanently installed at the winery, and form the beginnings of a sculpture garden. I didn't work with any timber in the end, just wasn't the stuff to be found that inspired me, and I was working under the brief of found objects/recycled material.
I was interviewed by ABC a couple of times, and the podcast can be found here. There are some photos of the finished items at the end, and also a link to the first interview.

    Cheers,
    Andy Mac
