    Default Advice for HSC Project

    Hey Guys,
This looks like a fantastic forum with heaps of guys willing to help with project ideas.

I am in Grade 12 this year and need to think of a project that we will be working on for about 6 months. I am not really sure what I want to build but ideas that have come to mind so far are an entertainment unit, laptop desk or a fishtank stand. Obviously these are all standard ideas and it would be better for me to think outside the box (besides the obvious built in dvd racks, speaker shelf etc etc).... Any ideas would be much appreciated

Thought it would be good to point out that my woodworking skills are very limited so either a relatively easy build or something that you guys could help walk me through it, thankyou!

    Welcome Dave!

Probably best to do something simple really well than something complex badly, so that might be a starting point.

What sort of things have you made so far, as it might give us some idea of your current abilities so we can offer some suggestions

    Cheers and welcome aboard
    Andrew

You know what I really want, what I really need in my kitchen?

I need a knife rack in which the big knives lie on their sides _and_ the whole thing is attached to the underside of the wall cupboards. The whole unit might be just 2cm thick! That way the knives are always within easy reach, no need to open the drawer with mucky hands for another knife, either. Open the drawer, shut the drawer, open the drawer, shut the dang drawer again.

The last thing I want is another of those dumb knife blocks that just takes up more counter space than it's worth.

Ready to go? I need space for 5 butcher knives max blade space: 5 x 21cm,
    5 boning knives: 3 x 15cm and 6 smaller kitchen prep knives: 3x15cm.
I don't want any extra knives slithering out of their slots! Modular. 30-35cm pieces.
One goes near a window, two more in a meter of space along the side board.

I will now stumble down from the "rant" pedestal.
You build a nice one and I'll consider buying a set of your plans, based upon what I see.
    Thank you.

Designer Dave: Well? What's happening? Nobody on Planet Earth makes what I want for a knife rack. I'm not in love with the idera, I can get along without it.
Curious = what have you decided to do?
