Default 5 AXIS DOUGHTY DRIVE & CNC TABLE CONTROL BOX & PARTS FOIR SALE (Seller in Melbourne)

    Hi All,

I'm based in Melbourne, Victoria and have for sale an unused / brand new condition 5 Axis Doughty Drive and many other parts, accessories and equipment (all in brand new/open box condition) which was procured with the intention of building a 1220mm x 2440mm CNC router table. Unfortunately I wasn't able to complete the build and all components have been stored in original packaging in my spare bedroom cupboard (a perfectly clean and dry environment).

Please refer to the attached zip folders which contain photos of the Doughty Drive and associated equipment/parts for sale.

While this CNC router table was custom designed by Colin Doughty for the increased cutting table area of 1220mm x 2440mm, the Doughty Drive system can be adapted for any sized CNC router table or mill project to suit your needs. All the original build plans, manual & technical correspondence can be provided.

Essentially, all the equipment and components needed for a fully operational 5 axis CNC router table was procured except for the maytec aluminium table/gantry frame sections and the main lead screw needed for horizontal movement of the gantry across the length of the table and also some electrical parts such as junction boxes and incidentals to complete the wiring/cabling (although most cabling will be provided).

A breakdown of the major components FOR SALE are as follows (all values in $AUD and exclude shipping costs) - note that I'm happy to courier all equipment myself anywhere in Victoria and potentially SA & NSW):

    • The Original Doughty Drive Manual (comprehensive instructions including detailed assembly diagrams, dimensions of machined parts and potential suppliers).

Original purchase price: $150. Sale Price: Free of charge and included with purchase of Doughty Drive Head Unit.

    • The new adapted design and detailed plans to suit the increased table size of 1220mm x 2440mm. Can be made available upon request as part of the Doughty Drive Head Unit purchase although have provided some 3D design images in the attached zip folder fyi.

    • CNC4PC CNC Control Box including Stepper Motors, Motion Controllers, Spindle etc, inclusive of the following (refer to manual included in attached zip folder):

    - 5 axis system,
    - Ethernet connectivity with PC, using the Ethernet Smooth Stepper,
    - Based on C32,
    - 6 x G203V Drivers,
    - 2 x RHT34-740 + 2 x RHT34-980 motors,
    - Connectors for pendant, probe, limits/homes,

    - MPG12 6 Axis Pendant,
    - A61 Inductive Switch Assembly to RJ45,
    - Touch and Tool Probe w ¼ shaft,
    - One AC relay controlled plug,
    - 65VDC@20A Power Supply / 220VAC single phase (note that Australian domestic power plug has been fitted).
    - 2hp Spindle +1.5Kw VFD inverter & 3 x ER20 collets (would prefer not to sell the spindle separately as it’s VFD/inverter has been incorporated into the CNC4PC Control box build, hence part of this package, h/ever may consider separate sale price of around $500 ONO),
    - Control Box Enclosure 642, 600x400x250

Original purchase price: $7,800 (incl. spindle & inverter). Sale Price: $4,800 ONO.
*Estimate Shipping Cost to USA: refer item no’s. 2, 3 & 4 below

    • Miscellaneous Parts & Accessories required to build the Doughty Drive CNC table system as per the amended Doughty Drive design for table size of 1220mm x 2440mm, inclusive only of the following:

    - Custom machined aluminium plates for assembly of the Doughty Drive supplied by local aluminium engineering machinist,
    - Martin spur gears (3no.) supplied by ‘Martin’,
    - Gear racks and rack clamps (to suit 1220mm x 2440mm table size) supplied by ‘CNC Router Parts LLC’,
    - Timing belts and pulleys supplied by ‘QTC Econobelts’,
    - *I still have the 64bit ASUS Windows 8 laptop running Rhino 5, Madcam plugin and Mach3 which can also be included if required.

Original purchase price: $4,350. Sale Price: These miscellaneous items will be included FREE OF CHARGE if the Doughty Drive + CNC4PC Control Box & Stepper Motors Package is purchased (ie. $3,900 + $4,800 = Package Deal Total of $8,700 ONO).

I would prefer to sell the entire Package Deal of $8,700 ONO to someone (consisting of 9no. packaged boxes of various sizes), but will consider individual offers for the Doughty Drive only at $3,900 ONO or the CNC4PC Control Box (including Motors & Spindle) only, at $4,800 ONO, or other offers for individual components.

Please get in touch if any questions.
And finally, I’d also like to state in advance that any interested purchaser should be made aware that the build process is a challenging one for those who do not have prior experience with, or at least a keen technically minded appreciation of electrical/mechanical engineering systems. And for those who are novice but still tempted to dive into the world of CNC, be prepared for a bit of hard work to complete the assembly as this is not a plug and play system (yet), however, when you do persevere and complete the build then you shall be rewarded with an absolute bargain CNC table with incredible capability (DYOR: most other 5 axis cnc router tables are around the $100K mark – the Doughty Drive system is an economical solution by comparison, particularly for a 1220 x 2440 table size).

Cheers all and thank you for reading!!
