Features-wise, I completely agree, nothing comes close in this price bracket (apart from its clones, e.g. Scheppach). You have to start looking at the Nova drills and they're on an entirely different league. My comments regarding the price is made with the knowledge that this model has been reduced a number of times in the past (twice to $246 and once to $299). Like I said, if you already have one of the generic industrial bench drill, the full asking price is probably not a good enough reason to upgrade. But if you were starting from scratch, you would have to weigh up the perceived robustness of the generic industrial models against the convenience and features of the Bosch. Also keep in mind that this drill is not part of Bosch's "blue" (professional) range so who knows how durable it's going to be.

I have one because I don't have enough space. I've bolted mine to a piece of wood and clamp it in the vice. It is easy to pick up and move. Very, very happy with it for the price. Particularly like being able to drop down to say 200 rpm for delicate cuts.

The major downside I've experienced is the lack of tilting table. The type of thing you think you can live without... briefly.

For those who are still looking, Amazon AU is currently offering $319 with free shipping (on Prime - which can be obtained 30 days for free). Not as good as last year's offer though...

Had mine for just over a year now, still very happy with it.
I'd find it very hard to go back to a belt change setup.

For those interested in the this drill, it's slightly cheaper from Amazon UK at $305. You still buy it via AmazonOz, you just have to search for it......or you could just click on this link.

And BTW, it looks like the sale ends in 13 hours and counting.

Default Bosch PDB 40 Drill Press

    +1

    Just paid $299 (last night)

I've been buying consumables and the odd tool for my dad, as well as feeding him small projects, to keep his spirits up during what has been a fairly depressing lock down for someone in their late 80's. Whilst he's enjoying most of his normal freedoms now, I know he'll love this little drill press.

If it hasn't shipped yet, you can just cancel and re-order at the lower price.

Tried that Mine had already shipped before the time I had spotted the price drop - it even arrived today (Sunday), 38 hours from order to delivery - can't really complain about that.

Default Bosch PDB 40 Drill Press

Just received this email from Amazon:

    Hello

We wanted to let you know that we're refunding you $20.00 for your Amazon.com.au order #XXX-YYYYYYY-XXXXXX, which includes (Bosch Bench Drill PBD 40 (710 Watt, Parallel Guide and Clamp Included, in Box): Amazon.com.au: Home Improvement), as we've further reduced the price of this item which you purchased during our Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotion.

So, $279 for the. PBD40 afterall.

Not really a big deal in terms of $20, but nonetheless a satisfying win from the standpoint of principle.

    I guess there'll be a few $20 refunds forthcoming.....
