Thread: Good deals on lathe chucks sets with this Ebay seller

I just got my chucks today, superfast postage!

They're really great quality, came in a great little aluminium case, very pleased with them indeed!

Highly recommend them!

Well at 95.3mm diameter, approximately, and going on how it looks, it seems to be a copy of the Vicmarc 100 chuck. Nothing wrong with that; if you are going to copy something, copy good stuff.

It certainly appears to be good value for money, here's hoping it stays the distance for you.

Is there any information on the maximum rpm the chuck can sustain?

My other chucks are Nova's/Records, and these are pretty much identical in spacing and quality. I've actually now bought 4 lots of chucks as I have a number of custom soft jaws I've made. These use M5 screws whereas the Nova/Record use M6 from memory (don't quote me on that though, I don't want to pull my other chucks apart to confirm), but apart from that they look and seem no different, and the Nova jaws fit just fine on these new ones.

Certainly don't feel or act any different on the lathe. The manuals pretty comprehensive and well written, but doesn't mention any speed requirements, just the usual "set appropriate speed to suit the timber, etc".

The 5 jaw set though is just awesome value, and in a case as good a quality as the old Record set I have.

They look ok however I would rather buy an Aussie Vicmarc and support locals.

Yeah I ended up buying two of these ones, and two of the plain single 50mm jaw sets, quality is awesome, pricing is spectacular. Buying locally is always good but hard to justify when it's almost double the cost, especially so when buying a quantity.

So I assume you don't wear clothing, drive a car, ride in a train or tram, use almost any form of utensil or plastic, etc, etc, cause you know, most of these things, or parts thereof, are made overseas.

And a lot of those things that aren't made overseas are made locally for foreign owners.

And anyway, given that the scroll chuck design is close to 200 years old and NOT from Australia, I hardly think it's "copying" when most things end with similar aesthetics in design!
