dodgey dwalt ads
I might be in the wrong place here
have any of you FB marketplace browsers noticed dodgey ads advertising Dewalt table saws and thicknessers
typically they are all $150 or $155 which is ridiculously low, they seem to use ads and photo's from other sellers, often repeating them as well
they have names from locations all around the globe
I wouldnt go near them in a fit, But I've always wondered what their modus operandi is in stitching people up
Any ideas?

Same as all scams, they rely on the 0.001% that fall for it!

It's the same reason people buy up dozens of gift cards from the supermarkets to pay supposed "ATO or Sheriff fines", and elderly people fork out tens of thousands for roof "spray jobs", etc, etc, they just need that infinitesimal fraction to respond, and they do. I think conservative estimates on scams was unofficially worth a couple billion a year from some reports nationally. If you've never watched the "Microsoft Support" scam videos on youtube where tech savvy people catch them out, they're an eye opener, it's very big business scamming people these days!
I get heaps of the scam emails about watching (dubious things online) and they request bitcoin payments or they'll "release the vidoes", the interesting thing with bitcoin is you can do a wallet search on the account number and see all the transactions. One I checked had around $70k USD deposited in a little over 3 months. So those sucked in paid the initial payment, and then were on the hook for more afterwards no doubt. I can't even begin to imagine the scale of fraud world wide just on that particular scam.

I cant help thinking they would get a higher strike rate if the price was closer to $600,
$150 seems to be "too good to be true"
I've just recently purchased a thicknesser off MP for $800, a $400 asking price would have me very suspicious ,thats why I think its odd

I saw one recently advertising a Laserpecker engraver ($1000+) for $30.
I knew what I was looking at, but many on FB wouldn't.
At only $30, I expect some unsure of what they were looking at could be tempted.
I commented on it that it was a $1000+ machine, but not surprisingly my comment was removed.
As stated above, they just need a small percentage to fall for it.

If only you had bought 33 of them, and then turned around and sold them for $1000 each! Max profit! ;-)
