Default Engineering and some woodworking gear from Melbourne Uni.

I think a lot of people would be interested in the gear that Melbourne Uni are selling from their engineering workshops. Not sure if they are rationalising or outsourcing, but some very nice pieces for sale here. Heaps of metrology, but also some bigger machines and even a few woodworking tools and clamps.

The Felder combination looks pretty good. Shame I'm on the other side of the country!

Pretty old machine (1989), buyers premium of 16 % and an $1100 removal surcharge... bidding already over $1000. It's easy to miss those auction add-ons that start to make bargains much less of a bargain. Be interesting to see what it ends up going for.

So a $4000 winning bid will cost $6314! $4000 + Premium $640 + Removal $1100 and then add the 10% GST on all that for a further $574. And no warranty!

I don't do auctions much at all nowadays, but when I was the thing that really put me off was the propensity for things you've won to be damaged or have bits missing when it came to collection time. There's a lot of great stuff there though, would be cool to eyeball it in person.

with the added kicker of view machine in CBD but collect from Carrum downs, so pay for removalist to potentially take it hours away.
so Gary they could send it to Hornsby for pick up to give you an idea of how wrong the final price could go.
cheers so much fine print these days

I'm an engineering student at the uni and from what I've heard they let go of the workshop staff early last year and are closing the workshop (science faculty), hence the auction. They're selling a lot of great stuff but I think it's a shame the uni's made this decision...

Yeah it's always heart-breaking when depts are closed down permanently, especially so if you see this sort of great gear broken up if you can't grab it when you have a genuine interest in it.

Prior place I worked at closed the metrology dept, and advised staff to make offers on the items, but a manager ended up selling the entire lot plus a couple other depts worth of stuff to some mates for a couple grand. I kicked up up a stink and managed to retrieve a few items which I was stoked about. Paid $200 for a fully complete Olympus PM3 inverting metallurgical scope. If they sent it to auction as they intended, they wouldn't have realised the camera and some control units and optics and filters belonged to it and would have sold them piecemeal.
