He doesn't sell the 18mm guide bushing that's required or suggest where you can buy one. Not easy to find and usually in a set.

The Youtube bloke gives Oz sources. I have not used this jig & it may or not be perfect, but having a UJK Parf System Reamer for 20mm Holes | Axminster Tools International is an asset.

Perhaps the dude can make them with hole sizes with more easily accessible bushings?

    Its a good idea though.

I was thinking that the template should incorporate some 1/2 holes as was discussed here: Modifying an MFT Top

edit - I sent the bloke an invite on eBay. If he joins us here, excellent!

    Default Template

Hi WP, I agree. It must be possible to get a perfect 20mm hole with a 24mm guide bush & a 16mm bit, so the template hole is 28mm?
The Festool top is 7 holes deep & 11 holes wide, so the template needs to have 7 holes, not six. Next it needs to be made from a hard material.
Someone suggested to me that the 16mm material that public toilet partitions are made from would be perfect, not sure what it is called. Peter

Hi WP - Thanks for the invite

The MFT Jig - MFT 20mm Hole Jig For Use With Router , Now with Expandable Alignment Dogs | eBay

Uses 25mm holes so the maximum size bush that can be used is 25mm. If you want 19mm holes and have a 24mm bush, you need an 18mm router bit. If you want to make 20mm holes with the jig you have to have a 2.5mm offset between the bush and bit. ie. Offset = Bush(mm) - Bit(mm) /2. So 15:10, 16:11, 17:12, 18:13 all the way to 25:20 bush:bit combo will give you a perfect 20mm hole. Change the offset and you will get a different diameter hole

I recommend that if your router already came with a bush, then stick with it and source a bit to give you the correct offset. Bushes for some reason are not that easy to get, but can be purchased as spare parts from all the major Router brands. However if you want a specific size then you can get some local aftermarket solutions -

18mm Guide/Copy bush for the plunge router –These often come with the router. If you need one ($23.22) GUIDE BUSH 18MM DIA | JPM Tools
Also you may need an adapter plate for your router ($43.80) UNIVERSAL SUBBASE C/W PINS & BUSH | JPM Tools

13mm Router Bit with shank to suit your router– Ideally should be an end-cutter design as these are better for boring holes – For ½” Shank T1413M E/C 2 Flute - End Cutting - Carbide Tipped - Carbitool or Torquata SE-130-XH http://www.timbecon.com.au/torquata-...ts-1-2in-shank Both Carbitool and Timbercon have plenty of other sizes too.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi Aldav

You don't necessarily need to have a 18mm bush. Use what you have but just make sure the offset between router and bit is exactly 2.5mm. So if you want a 20mm hole then 18mm bush and 13mm bit will work as will say 20mm bush and 15mm bit. If you dont have a guide bush you can get some after market ones from JPM in Moorabbin.

18mm Guide/Copy bush for the plunge router –other sizes available to ( from $23.22) GUIDE BUSH 18MM DIA | JPM Tools
Also you may need an adapter plate for your router ($43.80) UNIVERSAL SUBBASE C/W PINS & BUSH | JPM Tools

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi

I just wanted to let you all know that a MkII version of the jig will be released in a week or two. The two major changes are:

    1. The jig is now made from Moisture Resistant (MR) grade MDF
    2. The Jig now has Offset Holes

The jig is still made from 12mm thick stock. It would be great to have a more robust material. Only thing I could find was Melaimine laminated white MDF. I think these are popular with cabinet builders. However in my search the only ones I could find were about 3-4 x the cost of the MDF. In the interest of trying to keep the price "affordable" I just went with the MR option in this upgrade.

I have kept the jig the same dimensions as the previous one. We CNC the jig from 1200mm wide sheets. This allows us to go 2 wide and it greatly minimises the waste. If I could get a 1400mm wide sheet, then I would definitely consider a 7 hole wide template. However as the jig currently is, it makes light work of the original Festool 7 x 11 hole MFT pattern. You simply make your first set of holes (6 wide) down the entire length of your table. Then just flip the template 90 degrees, pin it in place with the dogs and you can do the 7th row, 6 holes at a time. Switching the template is very quick (20 seconds) and very easy (nothing to align).

Let me know if you have any further thoughts on improvements.

    Rob

They have EVERYTHING you could possibly need. They offer significant discounts to commercial clients too.

Ask them for a price sheet.

Give a thought to kitchen makers, they often have MDF laminated offcuts that you can usually get cheap, basin & sink cutouts. Yes a little more running around perhaps, but set up a regular pickup from these guys and they will start saving them for you.
