Surely these mobs are contravening numerous telecommunication laws. How does one get a member or minister to take some action?
Each complaint about telco issues that goes to the TIO costs the Telco money. So imho the Telecommunications Act & Regs should be "modernized" to force Telco's & ISP's / SP's to be more proactive in stamping out the phone / internet scams. I'm sure that if the Telco's hip pocket nerve got stimulated each time a scam call from Nicole from the NBN was received by a customer that the practices would be stopped pretty quickly. Telco's have no incentive atm to reduce / eliminate scam calls.

I’ve still got this turkey on the go.
Ive sent his email details to Gumtree and received a nice email back full of general advise on how to avoid being scammed, I think they might have mentioned they’d look into it.
A few hours later another email from the ‘buyer’ telling me to palletise the saw and he’ll pay me heaps for same.
Today I get the rating email from Gumtree asking me how they went at solving my problem.
I was very polite but pointed out they had done sfa to fix this prick.
The prick is now chasing me for payment details to complete his scam.
I’d love to trip him up but don’t know enough to do so and Gumtree and PayPal couldn’t give a !
Might just send him an email apologising for the delay and say the FBI has been hassling me as this obsolete printing gear is used for counterfeiting and he should be expecting them anytime soon.

Not a linotype or letterpress by any chance?

Nothing beats the thrill and excitement of slipping your hands inbetween two heavy metal plates mashing together to remove the newly printed sheet and slip in the new blank sheet!

    OH&S be buggered! ;-)

Hand fed Platen machine? they were great and all the apprentices got to use them because no tradesman was stupid enough to use one. I never saw one injure anyone but I did see a fellow student cut his thumb off on a sliding table saw cutting linotype.

Yep! My father ran a printing business from home, and as a 10 year old absolutely nothing sharpens your focus and dexterity like the thought (threat) of your hands being crushed!

Ah, the good old days of spreading ink with the spatula and then spending the next week trying to clean it off your skin, risking life and limb, setting the lead type and then sorting it all after the job finished, where could a kid go to have fun like that nowadays?

Although I must admit the machine that really scared my brother and I was the huge guillotine, it just looked and sounded evil incarnate in use!

    cheers, Ian

My comment was, as I'm sure you appreciate, a little bit tongue in cheek and I enter that particular thread into evidence as the exception that proves the rule.
