    Default Australiana Coasters

Picked up a small log off the side of the road that seemed to have close interesting grain patterns. Thought it would be OK for a bit of pyrography work.

Decided on a set of Coasters with an Australiana theme.

I cut the log down to rough boards on a Triton Saw Bench before running them through a GMC thicknesser. All pieces were then fine sanded to a smooth finish prior to burning.

Burnt a Platypus on a test piece to see how it would go.

Then selected the Aussie animals (Wombat, Kangaroo, Koala, Emu, Cockatoo & Platypus) to be used before burning them to the blanks.

The holder was then made from another two different timbers with an outline of Australia with a Cockatoo's head in the centre of the base. The corner posts are made from Peach tree with a Kangaroo's head burnt into each outer face.

Before all pieces were finished with several coats of clear varnish.
