    Default working stainless steel

How hard is it to flatten out a small end say about 25mm on a 5m ss rod,
Is threading the same as steel??

I think maybe you need to elaborate on the question a little.

What i can say is that stainless can be very red short, so you need to keep its temp up when forging.

    whats a 5m ss rod?

if the 5 refers to the diameter then it will be VERY HARD to do/
If the 5m is the length then what is the diameter?

Not hard at all, keep it hot, stainless is a bad conductor or heat.

I think he wants to flatten out 25mm on the end of a 5m length of rod. No mention of dia.

The hard part about stainless is as said above getting it worked while still hot before it looses too much heat. Just means more trips back to the forge and less time under the hammer.

The usual apply small dia heats up quicker and cools quicker, large dia takes longer to heat but retains the heat longer.

Why would anyone mention the length of the rod, let alone 5m long? It is clearly a typo and means to say a 5mm rod.
    My interpretation only of course.
The best part of SS is the colours you can achieve with it.
