Small crucible
I'm wanting to melt small amounts of metal, using a gas torch, for forming small custom parts, prior to machining. I have done a little bit of lead melting before (RC boat keels), but am interested in doing some brass, aluminium, possibly gold/silver in the future.
On ebay, there are some very cheap Silica (quartz) crucibles. The cheapest was under $3! Seems to good to be true. Are these suitable for hobbyist use for small melts? Do I need to prep them with anything before the first use, or can I just warm them up, and go for it?Good things come to those who wait, and sail right past those who don't reach out and grab them.
