Harden Cast iron Cylinders
I am wanting to harden the bore and valve seats of some old air cooled cast iron motorcycle cylinders to increase wear resistance.
I have spoken to people that have had it done and have been given a vague description. It involved salt bathes heat and an annealing process to decrease brittleness. The problem was they cant remember the name of the business or give me a process name so I can find out who does it.
Ideally I would like to get this done in South East Queensland as posting 25KG of cylinders two ways is becoming an expensive proposition these days.
Can someone please either let me know who may do this process, or what the process is known as. An added bonus would be how it works so I am not going in blind.
These are side valve air cooled cylinders. I don't want to sleeve as the bores on the replacement cylinders are still good.
Thanks in advance.
Steve
