Thread: Canoe Paddle Plans

Since I am past the half-way mark with the canoe, I am thinking seriously about building paddles, and anyone who has done that will realise there is a lot of stuff on the WWW, but not much of it gives any actual detail on sizes and how to actually build them.

Mostly you have to buy the book, or the plans, and I can understand that. I have often warned others that free plans are often worth what you pay for them.

This time I've stumble across (well actually Storer told me he'd done it) Michael Storer's Free Paddle Plans which is a pity really 'because I bought 'em a few years ago!!

Sorry for what appears to be an ad, but typical of Storer, these plans are designed for maximum performance with minimum construction techniques. If you want a simple paddle that really works.... go for it.

On the other hand if you want to do it the hard way, I built one to Michael's plans with my own hollow shaft (2mm wall thickness) just to see how light I could build a timber paddle (15oz )...

I'll probably keep adding to this thread as I build the new paddles eh?
