Costs
Well one of the big questions before I started was "How much would it cost me?" that is being as scroogy as possible.
Well I discovered half way through the building process many cost cutting measures were false economy. I went with Paulownia over WRC due to costs and don't regret that even though I prefer the look of WRC. I stripped it myself due to cost (about 40c/strip metre instead of $1). I didn't sacrifice anything on quality when it came to epoxy, glass, varnish or hardware.
First cost was 5 and half months of "spare" time.
These are rounded costs and where I've used a percentage of a product that I will use in the future (sandpaper, turps, staples, etc) I will over-approximate the cost of the portion used.
Paulownia $130
WRC 30
MDF (packing sheets) 80
Screws (strongback etc) 10
Epoxy, pumps, etc 172
Fibreglass 193
Varnish (2L) 71
Staples 10
Gloves (disposable) 3
Acetone 10
Turps 1
Sandpaper 20
Stainless hardware 40
Postage for Cane 8
Total $778
I've probably forgotten a few things but have rounded most things up to compensate.
The things haven't accounted for in this are
Replacement stable gun that I wore out (after over 10yrs) $50
Small wooden block plane (shaped for the internal work) $40
Sheoak as it was a poofteenth (which is a smidge (see that midge) less than a bee's dick) of the amount I bought ... say $10
Cane (donated by Scottkk (as distinct from scottyk)
Hope this helps who are likely to ask the same questions as I had before commencing.
I think this has answered all the questions I had before starting but ask away if you have any more.

Ramps,
Congratulations, fabulous thread, fabulous commentary, the only disappointing thing is that you finished before I finished the Eureka!
Double or nothing?

A couple of other things
I forgot the timber for the paddles cost about $50
Did a quick calculation last night
about 255 hrs to complete ... don't know how hat compares to others ... might do some digging on other forums!
Mik the next major build is a house ... looking at rammed earth ... prob within 10-15km from Jill
However if the plans for "A Handy Punt" came my way I could get distracted for a couple of months ... could be a good tender for the future, not to mention a runabout on the estuary and rivers. hmm (Thanks for the prize donation Mik)
But the next floating project will have a sail and be about 35 ft long.
Has to be something that we can spend a long time in (like 'round Oz type thing)
I love the NIS43 but it could be a bit too big a project as a first of ... any thoughts on the NIS43, other options, plenty of time to think about (probably years to tell you the truth, but gotta start planning now)
Thanks for all your ideas, feedback and support guys.Ramps
