Timber suggestion for kayak ribs in Sydney
Hi All,
Up up to the rib stage on a Greenland kayak - all wood with ballistic nylon covering.
For the ribs Iv'e tried Tassie Oak with no success. This after soakin for 5 days and steaming.
Does anyone have any suggestions on both the best type of wood to use for bending into ribs and where to get it in Sydney?
Cheers
Tony

Kayak frames
Tried to reply 3 times yesterday and my computer froze each time. Another day and another go.
When I sold Paulownia a few of my customers used it for making moulded frames. I believe they laminated the timber using 4.5 mm or 6 mm strips depending on how tight the bend was. This method produced strength from the glue but as Paulownia is very light the overall weight was low. A Geoff Moase 0411676854 took over my business and could supply to Sydney if you can't find some there.

Some guys over at the sea kayak forum suggest carbonised edge laminated lamelle (sometimes called coffee coloured) with good success.
If I do not clearly express what I mean, it is either for the reason that having no conversational powers, I cannot express what I mean, or that having no meaning, I do not mean what I fail to express. Which, to the best of my belief, is not the case.
