1/8" blade setup
Hi fellow bandsawers
I'm seeking advice as to the correct setup of 1/8' blade on a 14" bandsaw for cutting tight curves. The blade is a Henry Bros 10 tpi carbon blade and the bandsaw is a Powermatic 14" with roller bearing guides. I've viewed Mark Duginske's DVD where he sets the upper thrust bearing against the back of the blade and pushes the blade out 1/64". However, his band saw is running non-metal guide blocks.
What about these Carter Narrow Blade Stabilisers available from Lee Valley - do they merit consideration as an alternate setup?
Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi Ray,
I have the Carter stabilizer on my 10" Rikon and it also fits my 14" Rikon. I can say that it works like a dream and I cannot imagine free hand sawing without it anymore. Well worth the cost.Cheers,
Bob

Thanks Bob for the recommendation - can you purchase them here in AUS?
Also what adjustments have you made so that the 1/8" blade tracks in the middle of the band wheels noting that the rubber tyres have a high point in the middle which for me is causing the blade to want to roll off the wheel altogether.

Hi Ray,
I am in the USA so I can't answer your question on AUS availability.
I use a 1/4 inch blade on my 10" saw and have never found a reason or need to go smaller. I do know it was quite a task getting the 1/4" to track properly. The wheels have to be perfectly coplanar and you have to play with the tension until you get the blade where you want it. Difficult, yes, impossible, no. Once you get it right though, there is no greater joy in the shop.Cheers,
Bob
