Hi,
I am very interested in the Jet, especially the cast iron frame in a 14" which is rare. It seems my workshop won't actually be ready for 8 weeks now, which I was not expecting, so I have the time to chase this up.
Thanks heaps
Cheers
Jason

Hi,
On amazon there is only $35 between them and when you factor in $100 AUD for a riser block, you have got to wonder why anyone would buy the old model - at least in the US. I have contacted boht WW and Jet Tools for status of the new model, will let you know what I find out.

Its looking like I might have to hold off on a band saw until the new model, I don't think I could buy the current one knowing what I know now )

The new Jet certainly is impressive with 12" resaw capacity out of the box.

I contacted both suppliers as recommended and have heard nothing. That was a week ago. Sometimes I wonder about companies. You are prepared to spend some pretty significant dollars on a piece of equipment and they don't even show you the courtesy of a reply. Even a reply 'that we still have not heard anything from Taiwan, but have not forgotten you'.

From Jet Tools Australia ...
Hi Jason
I am sorry I have been waiting for all the information to send at the same time. The approx price subject to Exchange rate will be $1,686.00 plus freight from Brisbane. I have been waiting for a delivery date I expect it will not be available in Australia until at least December 2009.
Regards Col
Col did indicate It may be a $100.00 cheaper.
Thats way too expensive for me.
Still waiting on woodworking warehouse, but don't expect much difference. The cost of freight will probably be included in their price so it will be dearer, WWW is $100 dearer than jet tools for the DLX anyway from memory.
So its back to the DLX with a riser, or another bandsaw, I am not sure.

I am kind of thinking I might forget about the jet. I am now back to looking at the BP16A or the BP355 or the BAS 350. Much better price and for what I want, I kind of wonder if I get that, and see how I go. Later on I can flog it on ebay for something more expensive if I find it too limiting.
So now i have to work out whats nice about the Bp16a vs the BP355 vs the BAS 350. I did check out the 16" or less product review by the way. I guess I need to see in the flesh!
The BAS 350 one advantage off the bat is its location - Carbatec, thats where I am purchasing all my other toys *cough* toolsLast edited by pellcorp; 7th August 2009 at 04:01 PM. Reason: additional info

I couldn't wait any longer for the Jet. As I mentioned in another thread I just bought the Timbecon TBB-14 at the Perth Woodshow . I think the machine is similar to the Hafco BP-355. I thought with a 2 HP motor, the ability to take 1" blades and a 245 mm cutting depth, it was pretty good value.

Tbb-14
I have the Sherwood TBB-14 from Timbecon. It has been great for me. Once installed the blade was 90 degrees to the table and it cut beautifully.
For re-sawing dry boards I use a 1/2 inch Wood Slicer blade from Highland Woodworking (108" is close to 2750mm). This set up is really impressive, producing smooth boards from the saw. For wet wood I use the 1" blade from Timbecon.
Take some time to set up the guide bearings. Make sure the allen key is completely engaged in the little grub nuts before adjusting.
I was impressed with the dust removal from the lower wheel cabinet. Coupled with a 1 HP Carbatec extractor the cabinet stays almost free of sawdust. Sawdust does build up under the table as there is no extraction from this area.
I hope you enjoy your new TBB-14 as much as I enjoy mine.

When re-reading your original post I noticed that you didn't have the Hafco BP-355 in your choices. This is the same as the Timbecon TBB-14 that I bought the other day after going through the same decision making process.
I thought it looked better finished than some of the other bandsaws around that price and out of the box (yesterday) it was very well aligned.
This unit has a 235 MM cutting height capacity which is higher than the BP-16A and most 14in machines. With a hefty 2 HP motor, it has a fair bit more cutting power than the JET and other 14 in Bandsaws with the benefit of some additional features, like a tension gauge visible through a window in the top cabinet.
After seeing a number of Bandsaws in the metal, I thought that that JET models were priced more than what I thought they should be given that their perceived quality did not appear to be any better than similar Chinese/Taiwan sourced machines. Their was a clear gap in quality , however, between the latter and Hammer and Agazzani machines , which I thought were worth their extra dollars.
Finally, if you are going to do a lot of re-sawing and ripping, the Bp-355/TBB-14 can take 1" blades - again more than some other bandsaws.Last edited by TP1; 10th August 2009 at 11:12 AM. Reason: grammar

Tbb-14
I'm glad your bandsaw was aligned out of the box, too. The good alignment was very re-assuring when setting up my Sherwood TBB-14 bandsaw considering the hammering the Chinese/Taiwanese models sometimes cop.
To be really impressed try one of those Wood Slicer blades from the US with the TBB-14. The half inch Wood Slicer blade re-saws so much better than a standard 1" blade.
