Thread: Attention Hammer bandsaw owners

have you checked out machines4u? plenty of used bandsaw there.

I used to own a SCM S400P, I bought it new in 2013/2014? back then I had an opportunity to go with a N4400 or SCM. I chose S400P because I have used a few SCM machineries and quite happy with the SCM. the S400P was also heavier and beefier. I think N4400 is better than N3800 in terms of usability.

you wont regret going with N4400.

I have to admit I sold my S400p due to lack of use and then bought another bandsaw 2 weeks after I sold the S400P

only one key piece of advice for buying a Hammer bandsaw, either the 3800 and 44000. Inspect it in person before buying it and insist that you get the one that you inspected,

Have you considered a Laguna? I reckon I'd buy one of them if I were to buy another bandsaw. I bought the N4400 5 years ago and haven't been overly impressed with it.

How much are the hammers going for these days? I can't seem to find a price online.

The Hammer equipment is built like a brick youknowwhat. I have the N4400 bandsaw and it has been totally reliable. The blades are easy to change and there is an automatic brake. I run 1/2" bimetal blades for general cutting or a 1" carbide blade for resawing, and it can crank the tension up to run these (not sure if a Laguna can do so). Mine is now 9 years old, is 4.0 hp (the new ones are 3.5 hp) and runs on a 20 amp plug. Both my K3 sliding table and A3-31 combo thicknesser planer run on 15 amp, so it is possible the N4400 can do so as well ... but I would check on this.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the 14 SUV and 14BX. Both looked very solid. They are out of stock until Jan/Feb 2018. Depending on the size in single phase the quote I have is $2500 or $3000 + GST. This was very firm pricing. Want to sell yours?? ��

Thanks Derek, appreciate the comments. Also enjoyed looking at your website, we have similar philosophies in the approach.

The reason I didnt consider Laguna/N4400 was mainly the weight and the way the machine is built, little details that needs time to inspect and appreciate.

I have seen the N4400 in person and yes it looked fantastic but they all look nice when they are new.

I just think for the price of the Laguna/Harvey/Hammer/Jet bandsaw thats made in Asia, you could spend a little more and get something made in Italy. The SCM bandsaw were made by Centauro, not the Ferrari of bandsaw but close to it.

Hammer is made in Austria.

I thought the Hammer 4400 is made in Italy and rebadged Hammer?

Ive had a new Hammer 4400 sitting in the shed for the last 3-4 months, but haven't had time to use it, apart from silver gliding it every month.

The quality on the Steel on the Bandsaw is different to the A3, haven't had to to touch the A3 since i did the original Silverglide coating.

I would support bryn23 as I am 90% certain the Hammer N4400 bandsaw body is made in Italy, as I believe Felder contract out this to Italian companies. My guess is that Felder bring the bodies back to Austria and then add on the motor and electronics and trim bits. Bodies can vary between generations of the N4400 due to different companies making them - some better than others, hence my advice to do a visual inspection of the bandsaw before paying for it.

I know for certain that my K3 was built in Austria. THe N4400 may have connections to Italy. Either way, Hammer is not built in China. Where is Laguna built?

I have heard all the stories but yet to see any verifiable proof that Hammer products are made anywhere except in Austria.

Laguna bandsaw is made in Taiwan.
