Baker 14" Bandsaw Part Replacement
I have one of these bandsaws (purchased new about 8 years ago). The main blade wheel tilting bracket has broken - it is die cast aluminium (it is broken at the small arm that projects from the bracket that holds the spindle for the main blade wheel). I suspect it is due to combination of vibration and sidewyas bending moment due to the blade wheel angle adjusting screw.
In any case, have tried to weld it - not good. Now looking at rebuilding it. BUT, does anyone know where and if it is possible to get spares for this - are they still marketed here (it was made in Taiwan)
many thanks

Most of the Taiwanese bandsaws are made in the same factory with different name stickers stuck on them.
Take the broken part into Carbatec, Osborne St Springvale and see if they can help.

Make it in steel
For a competent metal worker the design is very simple to reproduce. Made in mild steel you will have no breakage problems.
Made my own years back when replacing my crappy Hafco 14''top arm. The hole for the gaurd adjustment that was miscast 15 degrees out of parallel with the blade.
It used to deflect 20 thou up and down during a sawcut. The arm carries the adjuster so I made my new one out of steel and brass.
Get to know a metalworker if you can't find a spare.

Thanks guys
I have tried to rebuild by setting a new MS post tapped into the shaft assembly, but it is herdened steel and very difficult to drill and tap. I think I can get a spare from Carba Tec, provided the critical dimensions line up - the part is pretty generic.
The other option is to rebuild completely, which is a last resort. As an Engineer, I must say it is a very poor design to place a fairly lightly built die cast aluminium arm under such side loads - then I guess not much professional engineering has gone into design of other aspects of the saw either.
