am going to buy a 18" jet bs.(i think) been looking around on net & at threads.gary pye sells jet 18" for about $1595.00. 2hp. 3hp price on arrangement. northbridge sell jet 3hp for $2195.00. is it worth it,i mean $600.00 for1 extra horse power seems a tad expensive to me.is the 2hp underpowered for resawing?dont wanna waste my hard earned $ on wrong machine.am wondering if bwwws will have them any cheaper.seems every thing i have bought there last few years was no saving at all.

The price on the 2hp seems awfully good, is it the new saw with the roller guide system? I think it will be the older one and the 3 hp the newer model. I bought the new one for $1795 in Sydney, so transport might push it a few dollars above that. I can only comment on the new one and it is a great machine, but I have done no resawing on it as yet.

Paul, have a look at my JET Bandsaw thread - I have received a number of positive responses by PM from happy JET 18X users and made a decision to buy the 2hp 18X on Monday - from WWWH in Melbourne.

There's a lot of confusion in old BS comparisons with the earlier model ie Jet 18 (the X makes a BIG difference!) which has now been improved in all critical areas.

I believe the JET 18X to be on the sweet spot of the value for money curve.

My personal assessment after a couple of months of research is that the JET 18X provides a smooth running solid platform with excellent engineering in terms of structural rigidity, easy to adjust guide system and acceptable table adjustments.

My only cticism is the fence system which is a bit ordinary (but adequate and upgradable). And forget the standard blade!

From what I have seen to get a substantially better machine eg Hammer N4400 you need to think about almost doubling the price.
