Band saw tire problem
Hi
I have a Delta 14" band saw (Model 28-299 or 28-293) that is about 16 years old. I bought and installed Carter band saw tires. The new tires have moved to the front of the wheels:IMG_4423.jpg Can anyone tell me what went wrong. I can use the band saw with any blade up to 1/2" but a larger blade wants to track on the outside of the wheel. Appreciate any help you can give. Thanks - Mike G

They appear to be the wrong size tyre. Tyre should span the recess in the wheel.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Hi NC Archer
Thanks for responding, I do appreciate it. That was my thought as well but in measuring the tire width and the wheel width(at the bottom of channel) they are very close to the same. It appears that the width is different but I think the tire is actually riding up on the front flange a bit. I can only find a 7/8" wide tire on Carters web site for the 14" Delta band saw. Please let me know if I am missing something or if you know where to buy a tire slightly wider than 7/8" width that they have. The channel is about 1/16" larger than the 7/8" tire.
The tire does seem to move easier than I would expect. If I push hard with my fingers I can move it from front to back. Perhaps that is the problem - the tire isn't holding to the wheel channel well enough. Thanks for the post - Mike G

An internet search seems to indicate that Later model Delta 14” had 7/8” wide tyres but some earlier ones had 1” wide tyres.

Thanks Lappa
That may be the answer. Might have to go to glued in rubber tires rather than the Urethane.

Thanks for all the advice. I asked Carter products about it and here is their answer:
"Good morning,
Thank you for contacting Carter Products. Our urethane and rubber tires are available in one width. As long as the blade is riding center it’s okay to use something with a small width.
Using rubber will not make a difference. "
I believe that using a 1" rubber or urethane tire will solve my problem - Mike G

I have an oddball bandsaw (Chinese copy of an Italian machine with 19 3/8” wheels) that has cracked out of round tires. I found a company on eBay that have polyurethane tires. I looked up the name on Facebook and contacted him through Messenger to see if he could make some for me. I’ve given him the measurements of the wheels and he is making up a pair of tires. His company is called Band Saw tire Warehouse and he is in the US. He probably has the tires you need in stock and if he doesn’t he can make them.
