Default Bandaw advice fitting carbatec fence / rail I bought is the wrong size?

    Hi All,

So I recently purchased a bandsaw from another forum member, I've since purchased a fence from Carbatec (https://www.carbatec.com.au/machiner...-suit-ctj-3501) which the gentleman at the shop said would work for me as well as a rail/sled that I can attach jigs too (can't find the link for this).

    Picture of my bandsaw:

    Issues:

    1) I can not tell how to mount the fence I've bought to my bandsaw or if indeed it is even compatible. It didn't come with any attachment instructions. It appears to have two bolts that go through the fence and into the top plate I've outlined these in both the picture from carbatec website and where they would go on my bandsaw but they are just not there.IMG_1374.jpgRF-3.jpg

Have I just got the wrong fence for my top plate? Surely I'm not expected to drill the holes?

    2) I was given a rail with the bandsaw (white one) and I've bought a rail inserts / sleds / don't know the name red in colour from carbatec but neither of them fit into the slots / grooves provided in the bandsaw top plate. You can see from the measurement on the calipres it's a width of 18.19mm but the white rail is 18.99 and the red one is 18.47. It's as if I either ahve the wrong one or I'm supposed to shave .28 of a mm of either the bandsaw top plate groove or the red rail? Seems weird either way, as I was given the impression that is was a standard size and they would 'just fit'.

    3) Also if anybody knows what the thread size is of the red rail from Carbatec that'd be most helpful.

Any help greatly appreciated as I've acquired some blackwood and I'm going to have a crack and creating some blanks from.

    Thanks in advance,

    -Scott

Mounting the fence rails - Yes, drill holes. I drilled and tapped mine.
The mitre slot should be 19mm wide by 10mm deep or 3/4 inch x 3/8 inch.
The mitre bars should drop in and slide comfortably with little slop. Wrap a bit of 800 grit sand paper around something flat that will fit inside the slot and clean the edges of the slots. They may have a build up of gunk or even paint from the factory.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

I agree with NCArcher, you are expected to drill (and tap) the holes. There's no international standard for saw fences, so even if there were holes, they'd almost certainly be in the wrong places.

Here again, there's no international standard, but common practice is to use a standard size. So if this saw was built to imperial measurements, then a ~3/4" slot would be machined wide enough to allow a standard 3/4" bar to slide (i.e. it would be a little over 19.05 wide). It looks like the slots in your table are metric - but why for an 18mm bar, not a 20mm bar, I don't know .

It looks like you'll have to either, grind down the width of your red rail, or get the slot in your table machined out to the imperial size. Or find an 18 x 9mm extrusion.

    Cheers, Vann.
