    Default bandsaw

Hi, I'm probably asking a question that has been asked before but....

I've been given a couple of bunnings vouchers as gifts from various occasions and been thinking about putting towards a bandsaw. I understand the ones in bunnings won't be the best quality but with the vouchers there right in my price range. Any recommendations out the fullboar or ryobi?

    Default Fullboar.

    Hi flash83,
One of our Lady Turners bought the Fullboar, & is quite happy with it, & I think it was $240.
It looked better that the other one.
    Regards,

I don’t have first hand experience with either sorry. But I will say that I moved on to a 14” fairly quickly after using a near new 8” Einhell for a while. It cost my neighbour about the same as the two you’ve named and I reckon they would be all pretty much the same. I know he would never buy another baby bandsaw.

I first saw the Full Boar last week and don’t even know long they have been flogged by Bunnies, so I’m not sure many will have first hand experience.

Baby bandsaws have their uses but not many. What do you want to do ?

Blades to suit are outrageous prices too.

I've only really started knocking a few things together in the last 9 or so months so it's only been small stuff like coffee tables and benches out of old pallets but would use the bandsaw for things like recesses for table legs and trying my hand at mortise and tennons (got the idea to make a timber farm style gate for home). Where else would be a good place to look for them, I saw on carba-tec the 14 inch but $700 is a little out of my range. I have been keep my eye on things like Gumtree but they don't come up often.

Yep, availability online can be hit and miss. I looked for ages and only big stuff ever came up. Cheap enough but too big for my space. After I finally gave in and bought one on special, several appeared in the market place!

    What about this ?

Various places sell a bp250 around this price and even better when they have special sales. Shipping may not be as much as you think.

I’m not sure the a bp250 will do what you want but it would be better than the 6” and 8” benchtop models.

It doesn’t use your bunnies vouchers though. Last year sometime it was mentioned in thread that bunnings were offering carbatec stuff as a special order. It does cost to ask.

I used to cut tenon on my table saw by varying the fence position on repeated crosscuts. Not with a tenon jig. Cleanup with a chisel.

Thanks for your help. I will check with bunnies about the carba-tec stuff.

I borrowed a table saw from a mate and the issue I had was you couldn't adjust the height of the blade so I thought a bandsaw would be better, I could be wrong though!

I have had the GMC variation of the small Ryobi BS from Bunnings for many years and use it for specific tasks that require a very fine tooth band. It has its problems, particularly the poor quality of blade guides and the cost of blades is relatively high at near $30 each. Otherwise it has done what I have asked of it but I would be more inclined to purchase a BS with higher specs and one with less expensive consumables. For the projects you have in mind I think a higher spec BS would be a more viable proposition in the long run.
