Thread: Bandsaw Blade Sharpening

I have been sharpening bandsaw blades for many years using a Dremel and a diamond disk. In the system I use, only the very back of the tooth is touched, and then just a smidgeon is removed. It requires a light stroking of the HSS or carbide tip. What one is doing is removing the wear bevel. I do not go near the bevel face as this can change the rake angle, which would affect the way it cuts.
This is a rather bad drawing to illustrate the position of the disk ...
I do this freehand - it takes practice and a steady hand. The blade is left on the bandsaw. There are a number of jigs, akin to Terry's, which can do a great job in maintaining consistency.
This is a useful video ...

G'day Derek
Are you sharpening carbide tipped blades as that was my initial question. I have purchased the Resaw King blade but hopefully wont need to resharpen to soon.

Hi Roy
I re-sharpened a 1" Lennox Woodmaster CT four or five times in its life, before replacing it with a new (current) one. However, it needs to be noted that the tooth design on the Woodmaster is different from the Resaw King. I am not sure if the process will work with the RK.
Teeth on CT ..
