Bandsaw blades
I HAVE AN OLD RYOBI 100MM (4") BANDSAW
This I bought 2nd hand and I have broken 3 blades now and am wondering why?
I am wondering whether the person putting these together has inferior steel or the way they send these to my hardware store is to blame .They twist the blade into a very small circle for ease of transport and I am wondering whether this does introduce small fractures in the product.
I have asked for my replacement blade to be transported in a figure *8* formation to lesson the stresses on the blade . What do you think and have you had the same problem? Cheers Steve

My first bandsaw was a 10" and even that was too small to consistently run a blade. I can't imagine a 100mm machine working for more than a few minutes before breaking the blade. The problem as explained to me by the bandsaw blade maker is that as the blade goes around the small wheel it develops cracks which rapidly grow until the blade breaks. In my experience 14" or 300mm is the minimum size for a useful bandsaw. As for shipping some of my blades are shipped to me folded into 5 coils which makes them smaller to post and it makes no difference at all to their durability.
