    Question Bandsaw Blades: New Zealand

Can anyone recommend a knowledgeable supplier of bandsaw blades in New Zealand? I've spent half the afternoon phoning around trying to get pricing and advice and the service has been average at best.

    Thanks,

    Hi Gareth,

I like Lenox bandsaw blades. My experience with their US technical support has been great. They have proven both knowledgeable and willing to help. The telephone number for the US is 800.642.0010 - don't know if that will work for you. There is a NZ dealer: Thode Knife & Saw Ltd. in Auckland 9.579.2007, they have branches in Rotorua and Christchurch. http://www.thode.co.nz/

    Good luck,
    Rob

    Thanks Rob,

Lenox are high on my list, unfortunately the local response (Thode included, 3 times) to queries has been very limited and generally uninformative (IMO).

I'm probably going to settle with purchasing from overseas, most likely a 3/4in Highland WW Wood Slicer first up and see where that takes me.

Thanks again for your feedback Rob, much appreciated.

Have you tried sharpening an dull blade?

I followed the instructions on this video. It took about 30 minutes for my Hammer 4400. The result was truly excellent - very sharp and tracked straight.

Default NZ Source of bandsaw blades

    Hi Gareth,
I buy my bandsaw blades from GP Sawdoctors in East Tamaki, Auckland.
I phone them up to tell them the length, tpi, width, thickness and type (Carbon, bimetal) and they make it up from the big rolls they have. I then go out and collect & pay them for it.
Prices come in at 2/3rd those of Carbatec. They will courier them out to you if you want as they seem to supply firms all over the North Island.
The owner is Alan and you can phone up and talk to him about what you want - he seems fairly knowledgeable about bandsaw blades.
One time I was there the Thode Saws van pulls up and a guy picks up some hobbyist blades that GP Sawdoctors had made up for them!
The other firm to try is Robertson & Sinclair in Auckland - they recently sharpened a hand panel saw for me and they still sharpen dovetail saws.
    Cheers

    Hi Gareth,

My apologies for the late reply - only just picked up your request. If you have not already sorted the problem, I used to get my blades made up by TopMaq in Christchurch, but they have stopped doing the work. TopMaq directed me to a business in Chch, who make them to order. Unfortunately, I am away from Chch for a few weeks and cant recall the name of the supplier without reference to my receipt. However, if you were to phone TopMaq, I am sure they will have the name of the company for you. TopMaq has a national answer service and you merely select the Christchurch branch to talk to - I suggest the sales div might be the best place to start. I have a 16" band saw and the blade circumference is not generally available off the shelf. I am very happy with the two new blades I purchased late last year - a 3/8" and a 1" if I recall.
