That's a hard one ! No idea - I've used a few hobby type machines - but not in any serious way - why is that ?
The reason for the larger unit is that I inherited some rare hardwoods which I am unable to cut with my existing equipment. Having wasted too much of one plank I 've decided to invest in the right equipment.
Cheers

It is difficult to make suggestions when you do not have the experience using different machines. What I can say is that my Hammer 4400 has been a most reliable machine, and with 4 hp it has more than enough power to cut anything. There is no vibration, and the table is a decent size. The blades are super easy to change. The fittings are build like a brick you-know-what. The fence is solid but could be improved with micro-adjustability. The mitre gauge slot is non-typical and I needed to make my own mitre gauge (perfect - happy to share with anyone). It did cost me extra to install a 20 amp plug (I think that you could get away with 15 amp, but nothing under this). If I was in the market, I would purchase it again.

I love my Hammer, however the Jet is a very good machine- like the quick detensioning knob and the guides. It looks similar to other Taiwanese/Chinese models but the finish and build quality is better. Swung to the Hammer as I got a Felder combo and it was "easier"

I work for an organisation that has both Jet and Carba-tec machines and I am also their maintenance guy. I personally own a Hammer and everytime I use it I cannot help thinking how superior it is to the others. It has a touch of European quality to it.

The only negative point with the Hammer that I can see is that it doesn't have a quick release tension bar/knobby duvalackey thingy...

Great info guys, I've followed up on the Hammer as recommended. FYI they are about to release "show special" pricing so if you are in the market for a Hammer the next few weeks will be a good time to haggle a deal.

I recommend you to use a vertical Trajan band saw. Trajan saws are designed by those who know the ins and out of the metal cutting industry. Equipped with powerful motors, fast and precise cutting and user friendly interface. Check out different models of Trajan saws here: Band Saw Links.
