Default Bandsaw Dust - Compression Tape for sealing door

I thought I would start a new thread as this is off the thread topic that I first saw this in. Turbulance mentioned in his thread about his new bandsaw that "I have just used some compression tape to make seals on all the edges of the two doors, (I can now get most of the dust into my small VAX - Dual Cyclone DC system - see my post in the General section.) The tape has also made the using the saw much cleaner, as it stops the dust falling out the sides of the doors, and reduced the saws noise level further again".

What is this compression tape and how is it applied to the door to seal it? I have a lot of dust shooting out around the edges of my Tanner (kiwi-made) bandsaw as the door is a poor fit in a lot of places (Back in the 50s when it was designed, the idea of dust collection was definitely no where to be seen in the mind of the designer).
    Thanks

I think that he means draught tape. the onesided sticky foam on a roll type you can score from a hardware store to seal around your house doors. it comes in different thicknesses and if you haven't got a lip all around the door opening you can use thick stuff to make a surface for the thinner stuff stuck to the door to close up against and thereby seal it up. Hope that makes sense.

    Mark,
thanks for that information - looks as if "compression tape" is a local name for door & window draught foam sealing tape and not anything special.

Not a local name, just my name for the type of draft tape I bought from Bunnies.

Sorry to miss your post I have been busy lately. In the shed, much to SWMBO's disgust!

I call the tape I use compression tape, because it was made of the foam rubber, with some sort of pitch type additive, that allows you to compress it, let it go, and it then slowly expands, back into shape. Great for sealing just about anything!

    Hi,
I know that tape - it's sold by the local Para rubber store so I'll buy some to try out.
    Thanks
