Yes agreed, but if they tried that would you now buy a car from that mfr. so perhaps we should not purchase dvds. etc if it has a license aggreement. Anyway you dont see the license when you take delivery only after you have opened same. So there should possible be a get out there?

Ever watched a DVD or vid? Remember the copyright notice at the start of every movie?

The video nazis will get you if you don't watch out.

Hey. Since we're comparing apples to oranges, would you buy a car you had to reboot all the time and continously re-install and upgrade it's operating system? Didn't think so.

I think Brudda can lend the DVD subject to the distributor's original licence.

If the licence restricts lending, it depends on how Brudda was informed about the restriction. If he discovered it only after viewing the usual licence guff you see at the start of most DVDs and not before he purchased it (received it as a gift) then the restriction is invalid because Brudda could not have known that restriction prior to the purchase.

I purchased a new car once like that though. The company went out of business recently. The number of upgrades (yes upgrade read call back) and repairs was unbelivable.

    to ndru.

Thats what I said earlier re license statement. Some recorded material does not have a restriction so how do you know.

I've made many tapes with my video camera and there is no aggreement contained

I dont think that anybody is talking about making money or even making copies of the item. It would be simply one person has a view and then posts it on to another. I would have thought that the license statement would be refering to public viewings (ie a group) or making copies, neither of which are being proposed.

It may be possible to purchase the dvd ... one member buys a post pack and then posts this to the person with the dvd as payment .... the person who then receives the post pack as payment decides to use this payment by posting it back with the dvd

Or the first person pays Brudda a small amount and when sending it on to the next person he includes a post pack. The next person uses this post pack and includes another.
That way everybody who forwards it on buys a post pack as a form of payment for the DVD.

Copyright problem solved as it is now a sale.

I think Brudda said the disc was not labelled, another loophole maybe.

What about sending an iPod around instead. That way everybody could add info as it went.
I am not paying for it in the first place though

How about a direct debit into the Brudda's bank account for the cost of postage +5c purchase price to effect a "sale". Each new person who wants to view it just arranges a deposit to the latest owner's account. If Brudda wants it back he just arranges it with the latest owner.

Posting a pack to the current holder as payment for purchase would double up on postage costs. However, it may be the only way to go if someone can't arrange a direct debit.

Subject to what Brudda (or anyone who want's to throw into the chain first) is happy to receive as payment, I'd be happy to make the first payment. I can easily do a next day turnaround.
