    Default bandsaw HELP

    Hi everyone,
can anyone offer advice with this problem,I have a Jet 14 inch band saw and I would like to make some boxes using a 1/8th 3mm blade, trouble is the blade will not stay on the wheels, even when it is roughly centered the guide wheels are nowhere near the blade even at their max adjustment.
I have put on new tyres but this does not help.
The saw is a Jet JW-BS 14 I guess you would call it a cabinet style saw.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
    many thanks and kind regards.
    Tom.

    Thanks
Thank you all for advice given,I have been adjusting the tracking until I am blue in the face, sometimes the blade will jump off as you start to tighten it up,I think I need some sort of differnt guides as I said these ones do not travel far enough to do anything, can you buy guides for this size of blade,I know what you mean about guide blocks, this saw has rollers and would need some sort of other fittings to take blocks.
    Kind regards.
    Tom.

Can you post any pics of the problem as they are worth 1000 words.

First you have adjust the tilt of the top wheel until the blade will run without the guides. Then you bring the guides in to just not quite touch the blade. Hope that helps.

    Hi,
a 1/8 3mm blade is small and can be tricky to set up.
I suggest you try to get a 3/8 inch (10mm) blade to track OK on this bandsaw?
This is a very standard size for a 14" bandsaw and if this size blade won't stay on the bandsaw wheels despite all the tracking adjustments, then there is something wrong with the physical alignment of the wheels to the main frame of the bandsaw.

i have a special blade guide for those 1/8 blades, just slides in where your back blade bearing goes
it has a single roller with a cut in the middle for the blade to sit inand you take the other blade roller guides out of the way, i will see if i can get a photo for you its called a bandsaw stabiliser bracket HERE IT IS SHOWN ON AN ACTUAL 14'' JET TOP BRACKET,not very good photo but you can see the idea, it works like a charm................bob

Are your wheels coplanar? I would check that first.
Make sure the blade is properly tensioned. Tension is a close second for the problem you describe.
    Then check guide settings.

    Question

I think the smallest size blade reccomended for that saw is 3/8" = 9mm approx.

    Hi again,
I have thought about the wheels being in or out of co planer,it is hard to check as the edge of the cabinet sticks out beyond the edges of the wheels,I was thinking that maybey I could stick a spacer to the edges of the wheels to bring to give the straight edge something to sit on.
I have not been able to find any info on this model all the 14 inch jet saws that I have googled up are different to mine, so min and max blade I am assuming would be very similiar.

    Default Bandsaw Frame question

Hi, is this a bandsaw with a solid cast iron frame or a bandsaw with a welded frame (like the bigger 16" or 18" bandsaws)? The answer will help me explain how to check the frame & wheel alignment, as I had a similar problem with blades not staying on the bandsaw wheels.

    Hi Paul,
Here is a pic of the beast,I finally found this info after all this time in the dark,it appears that a 3 mm blade is OK to use.
I have a 6m running at the moment and so far so good, just does not like the wee blade, maybey I need some other guides that can get in close to the 3mm blade as the ones fitted can't.
Thank you for trying to help and a thank you to all the other woodworms out there, had lots of advice and support, quite lovely actually.
I hope I can reciprocate [see Scots do know some big words, just don't like using them cause there English] I can't offer much advice on woodwork as I am fairly new to the drug,do have knowledge on,Guitar,Keeping Marine Life, wildlife photography,Commercial diving,so If anyone needs ifo on these subjects ask.
    All the best.
    Tom.

Bob, i also have a Jet 14" and that looks fantastic. Where did you get it, and will it work with Euro guides?

    Bandsaw Blade Stabilizer - BR-04
Traditionally, 14in bandsaws have not been able to support blades 3mm and thinner. This blade stabilizer solves that problem. Simply replace your thrust bearing with this stabilizer, adjust so the blade runs in the slot on the wheel and you can use bandsaw blades from 1.6-10mm wide. The slot prevents the blade from moving side-to-side and the fully sealed bearing (for long life) reduces heat build-up, which increases blade life.

    Hi,
glad to see you have solved your problem with a larger blade. A picture of the Jet bandsaw helped - I see it is a welded frame.
Check that your lower bandsaw wheel is aligned vertically with the front of the bandsaw frame, i.e. distance from top of rim to front of frame = distance from bottom of rim to front of frame. If they are different, then it will be difficult to get blades to stay on the bandsaw wheels.
I found a PDF with an exploded parts diagram of this bandsaw and it is possible to adjust the vertical and horizontal alignment of the lower wheel. Only do this if you have a problem.
    Cheers
