    Default First bandsaw..just got it!

After reading all the discussions in this forum, decided that with a $700 limit, I would go for the BAS 350 which was $689 at Carbatec Mel:
However they had none instock and next shipment not due from China till end September. On my way home called in to Gustec Bayswater.
Came out a "happy chappy" an hour later, lighter in the pocket by $700.
Got a SBW3501B,plus two new blades , as well as the one on the machine. Seemed a good deal as CT has them at $868.
Also was allowed to try it out , on various timbers .
As a newbee to bandsaws looked a good deal, now SHMBO is expecting a hall table to be produced pronto. HAD TO HAVE a bandsaw to cut some curves in the legs!!

Absolutely. You will also need a tablesaw to cut the straight bits.

Don't forget the jointer/thicknesser. Can't get it straight without one
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

...and the oscillating spindle sander to smooth out the bandsaw marks
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

    G'day,

And the bigger shed to fit all this machinery in that you have to buy to make the hall table.
I make things, I just take a long time.

    I do things **** about !!

Have the wood lathe, just finished building the router table (son of woodrat).

Found a local artist who had a somwhat rusty"Artisan home joiner combination" saw and thicknesser, sitting in her garage..did a swap for a heavy duty studio easel (All steel) that I made. (she being a painter).

Have got the saw working really well. But am very twitchy about playing around with the thicknesser section!! Am reading all the references in this forum on settup etc. As the blades are very blunt and need sharpening or replacing.
Does anyone know this particular machine..could be 20 years old?

Don't forget the 2HP dusty to keep everything in the big new shed clean; it really wouldn't do if dust settled in the lacquer of the promised hallway table...

    Thanks Numbat..

That was an interesting thread, they were sure built to last in those days, still has a very old 1hp motor and all bearings in good nick. now I also know what the side table is for. After cleaning up paintwork, it looks almost as new.
looks like it was a good swap.
