Bandsaw Setup and Tuning
Hi all
I've been retuning my band saw Jet JWBS - 18 inch .. About 6 years old
Ive found a few things which helped me but I'm still keen on tips and tricks .. As you know they are tricky little blighters ...
1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGbZqWac0jU
2) Book - New Complete Guide to the Band Saw - Mark Duginske 2007
ok I searched the net for books and This book was recommended over and over .. It's in Color and Easy to follow. I've used it many times.
also I searched utube for a good video .. The one above was great and little different to others. don't laugh the guys name is Alex Snodgrass .. Hes great at demystifying the tuning.
ok .. I learnt that removing my table is very easy and makes adjusting guides and tensions and tracking easy. I didn't know but there are different setups for re sawing and curves cutting.
alex recommends locating the bottom of your tooth in the middle of your tyre so it supports the teeth.. Not sure about this.
All runs ok but I still have issues .. Cuts ok but .. Blade still doesn't run in the same place eg the back guide has to be set back .. Side rollers all good... I've looked at pulley alignment, tensioning but cannot see anything. Tyres are new polyurethane.
Some ideas ..
The Jet may not be designed to have teeth in the middle of tyre ?
Over or under tensioning ?

Michael Fortune has at least one article in Fine Woodworking that describes how he sets up his bandsaw. Having seen the results first hand I decided to use his method and have achieved much better results since doing so. He also recommends using a 1/2" 3tpi blade which I find works well. You mileage may vary tho
