    Default Bandsaw modification.

    Hi all,

I am almost ready to fire up my bandsaw & panel saw. They are both 3 phase machines but the problem for me has been I only have single phase, so I went and bought a single to 3 phase converter and we'll be wiring it up on saturday.

So I had a guy come and measure me up for some blades for my panel saw and the band saw. I'm getting three blades for the bandsaw, a general purpose type blade, a ripping blabe and a finer blade for doing tighter curves.

Now the question is, has anyone modified their bandsaw to allow it to accept larger material height wise?

My BS has massive 2 ft wheels on it, is a big and solid old fashioned cast iron monster. It will comfortably accept 550-600mm width wise but height will only go to about 220mm due to the guide hitting on the top wheel door.

I thought if I cut into the door/cover I could pick up a bit more clearance as I would really like to be able to re-saw upto about 300mm in height.

Anyone done mods like this? From table to top wheel would be about 500mm, remember we are talking about big old & solid, not flimsy junk.

What sort did you get? I just bought one for a 3 phase metal work lathe and the guys in the metal work forum are discussing these quite a bit.

Do a search for member "pjt" I'm pretty sure he has done this on his bandsaw. He does a lot of resawing with his bandsaw.

    Thanks Bob.

My BS name/brand/maker is simply has moulded into the casting and has a largish P/A on it.

I believe it originally came from a Bunnings workshop of some kind and I would estimate it to be at least 20 years old, and that is purely a guestimate.

I'll have a look around for the post.

The easiest way is often to just PM the member and ask him about it.

    Hi Ali,
Yes, I have done a mod like you are asking about, in a nutshell I remounted the upper blade guide assembly higher and cut small bits out of the upper wheel housing to facilitate the guide wheels to be able to move completely up into the wheel housing, I can cut a tad over 350mm hieght on the sled and a tad over 400 from the table, there are a few pics in a bandsaw thread somewhere, don't think I started it tho...

    Pete

PS Can u do some pics?
