I doubt it but perhaps the motor was damaged by the blunt blade.
If this was the case then it indicates that the protective devices on the motor were faulty or insufficient.

From what I can gather Carbatec have already acknowledged they have had issues with this saw?

If the motor was damaged then that may have later affected it running to speed which means the centrifugal switch won't disengage the capacitor from the circuit and it will burn out.

Either way, it is a warranty issue.

I suspect Carbatec are just blaming the blunt blade so they don't have to pay for a new motor.
As soon as you argue they will normally fix it for you.
Unfortunately it is the norm these days for companies to try and blame the customer first in the hope they will just go away.

    Just to clarify;
If the motor is damaged because of a blunt blade then the protective devices installed were faulty.

Does the motor have an overload cut out?

My belt sander has one, if I load it up too much, the overload trips.

It's definitely got an overload thingy but it's not part of the main motor (wired in with the power and switch I guess). Carbatec initially had me dial up the overload setting by one notch (from 10 to 11amps) to see if it was the problem but it made no difference--cutout still happened.

This may indicate that the motor has at one stage drawn a lot of current and become hot consequently damaging the windings.

If the cut out was faulty and didn't cut out until the current was around 20 Amps damage may have occurred.

Now, after the damage has been done the motor cuts out every time you turn it on.

If the cutout was fine at 10 Amps then the motor would never have been damaged as it would have been protected.

    Definitely a warranty claim.

Sure, you may have had a slightly damaged blade on the saw but if everything was working correctly the motor would have drawn extra current and overloaded at the time.

Tell them the only action you will accept is a replacement saw or the fitting of a new motor at their expense.

I have a saying as to what CARBA-TEC stand for, but as they are sponsor of this site I can not print it here.

Make carbatec fix it or replace it.
I don't believe you did anything wrong. A blunt saw, give me a break.....
If they don't then a LOT of people on this forum I'm sure would like to know.
I'd make sure you let them know your going to tell as well within the forum.
If they don't like it then as a sponsor they can respond as well..

The most a BLUNT BLADE would do is add a slight load to the motor and I do mean SLIGHT / MINIMAL.

The only thing you would have noticed was a burnt wood smell, burnt saw dust and a very slow cut, It would not impact on the motor, as they are geared down anyway.

Just to close this one out: after taking some of this advice back to Carbatec and further discussion, the warranty was honoured with the motor being replaced. It finally arrived from whatever far-flung planet supplies bandsaw motors to Carbatec and Carbatec came 'round to install in mid-July.

Thanks again all for your advice and support.
