My first Bandsaw (secondhand)
Bandsaw 2.jpgBandsaw 3.jpgBandsaw Oct 2012.jpgHobby Bandsaw pick up Geelong Vic | eBay
Hello,
I have just added this "hobby" bandsaw to my shed and I am delighted. Tried for a carbatec floor standing one but got pipped at $275 on ebay.
I have never owned one and can't believe how versatile they are. Thanks to the forum for helping with how to measure the blade size and work out blade tension. Brilliantwine and wood

Nice pick up, I would look at replacing the MDF table with plywood with a laminate top. The reason being is that MDF if not moisture proof and will absorb moisture from the air , swell and distort.
If you can an aluminum table would be even better, but the Plywood will be far better than the MDF.
in the mean time have fun and enjoy your new toy, I recommend the Alex Snodgrass video set up, I use this and find that the saw cuts are excellent .

Good little pick up for the price. It will have its limitations however as long as you are aware of this I am sure it would get quite a bit of use. It would actually be a handy little one to hold onto as down the track you could fit a really thin blade and use it almost like a large dedicated scrollsaw (ie tighter cuts) and get a larger one for bigger tasks. I wouldn't mind having a smaller bandsaw and a larger bandsaw.
As for blade sizes there is no standard size (although some places will stock a handful of blades to match machines they may sell). I am not sure how much M10 is going to charge however you can get any blades made to size, generally at a more reasonable rate than can be found for the ready made blades. If you search on these forums for blade suppliers you will find Henry Brothers and I would also recommend McDiven Saws Pty. Ltd. (03 971458, 328 Kororoit Creek Road, Williamstown Nth. 3016). If you call either and describe what you want to do and the bandsaw details that you have you will end up with the most suitable blade for the task, and they both post if you cant collect.
Cheers

I buy all my Blades from a local Saw Doctor, they are cheaper than the hardware buy about $8-$9.00 each, and I resharpen with a Dremel tool about twice before i throw them out, after the second sharpening the tooth set is nearly gone , and they can start to bind in the cut , especally in pine etc.

Looks like a great little bandsaw... I imported some Olson saw blades for mine from The Sulphur Grove Tool Co in the USA, but that's because I had to replace the old rubber tires with Poyurethane and I thought I may as well combine the shipping cost. But what about Carbatec?

McDivens in Kororoit Creek Rd, Williamstown will make blades to order and prices are reasonable.

First resaw.
I have just sawn some reclaimed brush box floor boards into half widths to make a box. Just reading current Australian woodworker article on bandsaw setup. Some good tips but really aimed at those with more than my little hobby one. Am off to www show In Melbourne tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Will be asking a few qns about my bandsaw.

Nice band saw mate! I usually purchase my saw blades online and most of my blades are Haltbar, they are pretty durable and inexpensive too.
