Bandsaw sled for cross-cutting logs.
G'day all,
Have seen several threads for ripping logs on a bandsaw, but only a couple on cross-cutting logs.
Has anyone made a sled, or seen plans for one ?
Any advice would be appreciated

I have melamine sheet that has legs and clamp on top of bandsaw table giving a bigger work area.
So to rout some grooves and make a sled would be relatively easy with some V blocks nailed down to support the round log , sliding tables are great on bandsaw.
there is a time life book on jigs which is a good read for ideas and plans!but it's part of a series, someone was selling them individual on eBay.
my copy is packed away at the moment.

That's probably because most people would use a chainsaw. that way you can cut whatever length you want. With a bandsaw you cant crosscut more than the throat of the machine, in my case 21 inches. There's a lot more length to a log than there is width so the thickness of the kerf is not as big an issue.

Thanks for that hint.
I have just ordered "Time Life ~ Woodsmith ~ Custom woodworking ~ Shop-Built Jigs Fixtures" from EBay. $24.
They also had several on Amazon, but as usual many of them don't mail to Australia.
It's not worth kicking over the chainsaw just to square up the ends of one log.
Thanks for the suggestions

To each his own, I guess Col. I reckon personally that by the time I get the bandsaw out, tension the blade, fit a sled, align the log on the sled and cut it through I could have marked it out, cut it with the chainsaw, cleaned the chainsaw, sharpened the blade and be sitting down quietly contemplating the next job over a coldie.
Cheers

I use my BS sled/s for long and cross cutting, just a matter of how I have orientated the wood
