That exactly it. I have always been of the nature that if I can do something myself why not. I know that the overall cost of replacing the tyres myselkf is probably not worth the ease of buying some tyres in, but its more fun for me.

Anyway, I'm heading out to find some new tyre rubber,
    Thanks Everyone!!!!!

    Update -

I decided to have a go at using rubber tyre tubes to replace the tyres on the bandsaw.
Quick question, what does everyone recommend to use to glue the rubber onto the wheels??

    Thanks

Make it so its a reasonably tight stretch fit and you don't need to glue it.
Make it a bit too wide and trim the edges after its on the wheel

Hi Boxers. I ended up using an old tyre inner tube for the wheels. This week I will be refiting the wheels and gluing the rubber on so I will try to get some photos over the next couple of days and post them up.

    Boucherie Bois

Go for it. Any moron with a bit of plastic can go to shop and buy replacement parts.

Those amongst us who can bodgy up a home-made fitment - Priceless!

Done. Here is the thread where I replaced the bandsaw tyres. Thanks for all the ideas/suggestions. This was pretty easy and great seeing the wheels ready for a new blade!

    Hello Wood butcher,

I am abit late on the scene here and it looks like what you have done should be fine.

I restored an old 14'' bandsaw which of course require re-rubbering the flat wheels. I ended up using what is called "ïnsertion rubber'' about 5mm thick for the tyres. Insertion rubber came from ''Clark Rubber'', its a multiple layer reinforced type rubber which mainly has industrial applications.

Basically I got them to cut two narrow strips (which cost next to nothing) and superglued the ends together and contact cemented them on to the wheels, it works a treat.

    Regard
    Steve

Hi Steve, That is something that I had thought of doing but that would've cost money. I have also seen that done scarfing the joint on the rubber. Apparently is a stronger joint.

Cheap is always better I guess but as I only got them to cut two narrow strips the total cost was only a couple of dollars anyway.

I made up a small jig to cut a good scarf joint as you suggest - no rocket science, just an angled block of wood that guided the angle for the knife but everything was clamped down.

    Regards
    Steve
