Default What blade for my bandsaw

Hi guys, I acquired a little while ago a juniour woodfast band saw. I now have a motor, just need a blade. But which blade? I didn't really plan on even having a band saw and don't have a real idea what I'll be doing with it. At the moment I use only hand tools and make smaller stuff stools, small cabinets and boxes etc from maple and pine.

Any thoughts what might make a good starter blade tpi, width ?

    Thanks Mike

For general cutting , use 1/2" or 3/4" 4TPI blade . 1/2" 3 TPI for resawing, 1/4" blade for cutting tight curves.
For boxes, you may use 1/4 " or 3/16" 10 TPI blade.

Get a woodpecker blade from Peacock in Brisbane, they post. I was a bi metal blade man before but they said try this as we have great feed back from customers. I was doubtful but I'm now a very happy woodie, there cheap as well and a bargain for the performance.

    Default Bandsaw Blades

I have been a professional Joiner nearly all my working life (38years) and this is the one question my apprentices and students ask. I only use one bandsaw blade and have done for about last 20 years and that is a 25mTCT blade. They are expensive but last a very long time. We use the bandsaw daily and we find that about every two months it needs sharpening. It does everything we need it to do. For tight curve work we use the scroll saw as this does a better job anyway. My advice is just buy the one blade, as in the long run it is cheaper than the standard blades which to be honest are simply rubbish. I am sure most people use TCT saw blades so why not on the bandsaw?

    Default TCT Bandsaw blade

These blades resaw with complete ease. I was teaching a few guys from a local men's shed awhile ago and they were totally taken back. My bandsaw only has a 5hp motor and I was resawing 400mm jarrah with ease

G'day KPH, where do you get your blades, l need a really good blade to do blackwood logs and old bridge timber, on a home made bandsaw mill.

Blade length 4420mm, not sure of the blade width (3/4 or 1 inch) as l am buying the blade for the owner in exchange for cutting the said timber.
