Blade set.
Over the weekend I was putting a particularly old lump of redgum, about 3" thick through the bandsaw. The blade noise suddenly changed and I could not maintain a straight cut with the blade running off at quite an angle. After finally getting the timber off the blade I finished the cut with a chainsaw - hard going. At the point where the blade started running off there was an inclusion in the wood, not metalic looking very much like hardened sap, not brittle though. The blade had lost just about all set on one side. With no load on the saw the band is running true, not blued or overheaded, and when I tried to cut a peice of oregon it again ran off. Obviously loosing the set on one side causes this. Question. Is it O.K. to reset the teeth on both sides with a common handsaw setting tool and have others experienced the phenomenon of hitting what appears to be a sap inclusion which knocks the blade around so much.
Regerds,
Percy.

Hi Percy, On the inclusions I sometimes hit bits of grit or stone in old timber and the bandsaw will go from sharp to blunt in a second and many times you just hit one side and then the blade cuts crooked and burns. Mallee root is just about unworkable with a bandsaw because of the risk of hitting grit. As for resetting by hand please let us all know if you succeed. I have them sharpened and set by my local bandsaw shop for about ten dollars a blade.

If the blade is case hardened they're not re-settable, the teeth will snap if you try. Personally, I think setting by hand may not work as the speed of the blade probably won't be as forgiving to minor differences in set as a handsaw but do let us know and good luck
