Blade tension
Hi all,
Just purchased and setup the baby carbatec 10" bandsaw. I know its not the most popular on this forum but I have a big space issue and only want it for some toy making. So far pretty happy with it for the price.
I followed the Alex Snodgrass youtube setup and got all the roller guides and table adjusted nicely, but I am uncertain with the blade tension.
I set it up thinking it had the 1/8" deflection (1/4" blade) and it appeared to cut straight, but leaning into the curves, I could actually twist the blade as I was cutting. It twist a lot more than I was expecting (maybe 30 degrees) so I immediately stopped turning and tensioned the blade more. The radius of cut was a lot better and the blade didn't twist anywhere near as much but I feel the blade is MUCH tighter than most of the setups indicate. There's probably 1-2mm flex at most, probably closer to 1mm. It cut well and didn't do anything strange but now I am unsure if this is too tight?
Appreciate any input.

My mate just bought that saw and it would not cut curves until we put a 3 tooth per inch blade on it. It now has a slightly wider kerth and cuts curves no problem. I tension the blades till it sounds like a c note.
I am learning, slowley.

To check if the tension is too tight or not, begin with plucking it like a guitar string. You listen to the tone of the blade and if it makes a dull thudding noise as you pluck it, tighten it more however if it begins to make a clear metallic tone, stop adding the tension. You may also use simometer if you want to be more accurate in checking tightness of the tension.
I've been visiting bandsawmanuals.com and bandsawblog.com for my references .These sites have been very helpful to me.
