Blade weld mis-alignment
Hi.
I have just purchased a new 3/4" 3tpi blade (from CarbaTec) for my new bandsaw (that I found under my Grandma's house).
After careful setup, I discovered that the blade moves back and forth when running, coming into contact with the thrust bearing on a regular cycle.
Laying a straightedge across the back of the blade confirms that there is misalignment across the back of the weld. I would estimate that there is a concave of 0.5mm across the back of the weld.
Anyone with any idea of acceptable tolerances on blade welds? Would I be able to return it to CT after having made a couple of cuts?
John

Looks like I'm driving to Carba-Tec then.
I found quite a few posts recommending Henry Bros as a supplier of blades. Just how much of a difference would I notice fitting one of their blades?
At the moment my main use for the bandsaw is to rip old hardwood stair treads (50mm thick). I also want to resaw up to 100mm. A salesperson at CT recommended the 3/4" 3tpi blade for this. Since then I read in one book that my bandsaw (a generic 14" Taiwanese model) is going to struggle tensioning a 3/4" blade and they recommend only going to 1/2".
I am considering giving Henry Bros a call tomorrow and see if they can recommend a blade for my ripping and resawing needs. Also wondering if they can recommend a more general purpose blade but I'm a bit hazy about the definition of "general purpose".

Henry Bros would be a good choice in my opinion. Listen to what they say and follow their advice. They will steer you in the right direction. Blade quality has always been good in my experience. Price has been fine as well.
cheers
