Default I just ordered a new BS-470 from Leda in Adelaide

    Hi all you mob ,

I just bought my first bandsaw from Leda in Adelaide.

    Bandsaws : 18 inch LEDACRAFT BS-470 BANDSAW

I saw that most people were buying or recommending Laguna's and Hammers and so on, but I thought the Leda was the best option in regards to price and power. I have not seen the machine to I am leaving it up tp the guys in Adelaide to send me up a beauty!

I will post a review for you mob in a month when I get it setup, the 15amp instlled and some logs to make sawdust with.

    Palya!

    Miko

My new BS and Drill press! Both from LEDA in Adelaide. Check out the wheels on the BS! This is my first BS and the only one I have ever used so I am not sure my review will be too valuable. Anyhoo

Ok, so the saw came boxed up quite well with a blade installed (too far forward according to Alex Snodgrass's advice though) the saw was bolted to a small pallet and was not too hard to remove by myself.

I checked around the machine and it all seemed put together well, it is a welded steel frame (c-sections along the spine) with alloy wheels. It does look cheaply made, I could see the metal has lumps on it under the paint and a few components and adjustments seemed to be a little dodgy, although I had it set up and cutting boards in less then 2 hours.

It got too dark for me to have a real go at it and I had to get the dinner prepared so tomorrow will be a good test, I bought a few blades with it to learn and have a muck around before I buy some ones so I might have em blunt before monday! I have a few green pickings hidden about the place that I will pick up tomorrow and see if I can cut a few straight boards on this thing.

Ohh, I also bought the wheels to go with it an installed them in about 15 mins. They work great.

So in my unexperienced view this is day 1's votes.

    Packaging
    7/10
    Setup time
    9/10
    Destructions
    8/10 Surprisingly!
    First cut and accuracy
    4/10

Ill give you mob a heads up after the weekend with some pictures.

    Hey Miko,

I doubt you will be disappointed, all the machines I bought new, I bought from Leda, including a 17" BS.

They are a great company to deal with & I have found their machinery to be excellent.

If you have to get blades sent up from Adelaide, I recommend "Q Works"in Queenstown. I recently bought a 1/2"x 6TPI for my 17"and it was about $45.

    Miko,

    Just a note on Accuracy.

Bandsaw blades have a certain amount of Runnout.

The way to correct this is to get a piece of timber about 600mm long & rule a line parallel to the straight edge, along the length.

Next freehand cut the best you can along the line about 3/4 of the length.....

    This the important part.

Stop the bandsaw about 3/4 of the way through your cut WITHOUT MOVING YOUR TIMBER.

Now set the fence to your timber.

The more care you take with your cut & ensuring you dont move your timber before you set the fence to it, the more accurate your fence will be to THAT blade.

It is possible you will have to do this again when you change blades, although, I have been fortunate and have not had to adjust my fence too often.

    25"Drum Sander
    Dust Extractor

    Thanks for that Steve.

Blazk, I could actually add to that list, as my Brother & Sister are also woodworkers, & we each have our own workshops set up, but we have on several occasions, utilized buying power buy buying multiple machines at the same time for a much better deal.

I think you will be very happy with any machine you buy from Leda, and if your not, then I'm sure their after sales service will see you right. It has for me, even after the warranty period on one occasion.

If your in Adelaide, I am also a member or Western Woodworkers at St Marys on South Road. We meet the 2nd & 3rd Saturday of each month. Great bunch of people, a good mix of Young & old, as well as average skill level to OMG. I highly recommend you come & have a look, where you will also see a large range of Leda Machinery including a 17"Bandsaw.

Steve, I had no idea there even was a woodworking group in Adelaide. I'm in Flinders Park so I'm not to far from St Mary's and would love to come down and see what it's all about. Thank you for the insight I'll be going down to Leda within the next few days and pick one up as I just cleaned up the workshop ready.

Ill be down there on Satuday. Its $5 a day, this covers tea, coffee & bikkies. Its at the Anglican Church and the driveway is on the south side of the small cemetery on South Rd, just after you go over Daws Road on the left. Drive up as far as you can & you will see the shed on the right of the car park. It starts at about 9 & goes through till about 4.

This is NOT a mens shed group, but rather a woodworking group. You need to supply your own timber, & I try to take what ever tools I might need on the day as well, but this is not necessary.

They are a good group, & I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

    Hi All,

I have finally had some time to set up my work shop and OMG! This bandsaw is amazing, I have put a small (10mm) blade on it and it cuts like a dream. I had only used the bigger (25mm) blade for ripping. Anyhoo I am really happy with my LEDA bandsaw and drill press.

I will be making some wooden toys for the nephews this coming weekend. Rippa! (Actually if anyone has some dimentions or plans for toys Id love to hear about it.
