BS throat plate evolution.
When I got my BS it had a plastic throat plate with 14, 6mm holes in it that looks like this.

The plastic throat plate lasted about 2 years before it broke so I made one out of Al (leftmost one in picture below) with 17, 6mm holes

Then I decided to make one with 8mm holes (middle one). shorty afterwards I replaced the perished tyres and notice the blade no longer ran in the middle of the plate slot (also had to adjust guides etc) and was running up against the RHS of the slot (I suspect the replacement types were a bit thicker that the originals) so I open up the the the slot to accomodate the new blade position.
This arvo I made a new TP with 24, 8mm holes.
Yeah I know, the hole locations are not very symmetrical but with 24 holes I think it should work better than the others. One thing that makes a significant difference is having the slot facing away from back of the blade ie opposite to what is done on most saws.
The trickiest bit in making these is getting 4.4mm thick Al so it sits level in the table hole/recess. To do them I cut a roughly square piece of 5mm thick Al plate and drill/screw the corners into a wooden faceplate that mounts on the MW lathe. Then I remove/skim 0.6mm from ~75mm circular section in the middle of plate and then use a parting tool to cut out the exact size plate (70mm). Al cuts like butter when Meths is use as the lube - I use a spray bottle while drill, turning and tapping (the two M4 grub screws on opposite sides of the slot.
